I have a friend who has converted nearly 50 O gauge PS 2/3 engines to battery power.  I think that the process would be much the same in G gauge as it is in O gauge.  PS 2/3 is most likely the same for both gauges.  You might need a bigger battery for G.  I can put you in touch by email if you are interested.  NH Joe

Hi Joe, I have a guy that will convert my G scale MTH 4449 to battery power. But he’s having a hard time finding an electrical Schematic of the engine. Do you think your friend can help with that? You need no schematic.  Battery power goes to the positive and negative Power input.  Red/Black wires off the 7 pin connector.  Use a fuse and switch in series for protection.

If you are going to do this, you need a TIU in a trail car.  Battery to input of TIU, output of TIU to the Red and Black wires mentioned above.

You also want to remove the wires to the slider shoes and wheels.  Otherwise you power the rails with the battery.  Which can cause shorts and other issues.  G
