Back in '74 I was making $100/mo working part-time while still in school.
Mom was making $1000/mo as a teacher and I think by then she had her PhD.
She's gone ten years now and $1000 won't get you a studio apartment within 30 miles. Much less groceries, etc.
$100 might get you a dinner for two if you get a really cheap wine.

Most rental cars charge a "convenience" fee for using their automatic toll payment devices or a later bill from a plate reader. The company I use for rentals charges ~ $4 per day (not per day you use toll roads, per day of the rental, whether you go anywhere near a toll road or not).
I believe in my example they are "kind" enough to cap it at ~ $20 per month, how nice of them!
I used to pay less than $5 for a round trip on roads to/from an airport for cash... if I was to use the automated tolls, I would spend the toll cost plus that $20, only a 400% plus surcharge for my "convenience"(when I have no other option for the given route). For the moment, I have an alternate route that also accepts cash, but that may go away someday soon too.

Rental cars are not any issue. I just bring my EZ-Pass along and stick it to the window for the duration of the rental, problem solved.
Don’t get caught that is a violation of the agreement you have with ezpass.
It was stated in the TCA News that there were now 60% of attendees that were seniors. It was also stated that the ED could not determine if seniors actually were members for ten years because lapsed members could get their original numbers back.
What they failed to mention was that in order to get your original number you had to pay all past dues unless something has changed. Another spin on information just to implement a change.
The other part of the notification seemed to indicate increasing charges but most of the hall monitors are volunteers.
I think this may be a huge gamble on their part. If a significant number of the seniors don’t decide to pay the additional amount their revenue will be the same or lower. With Lionel deciding to either not participate or even at a reduced presence it could have an even more of an impact especially if others follow suit.
Time will tell if this move will work.
I plan to be in York in April and it will be interesting to see what impact this has.
I'm very disappointed in the low level of post York hysteria. If eliminating the senior discount, charging for chairs, going to one meet a year and opening the grandstand is the best we can do then we need to quit talking about York

C'mom people let's spice this thing up. I heard that the leader of North Korea and Donald Trump had both joined TCA and were coming to April York to promote the common interests of our countries. Word is they will start a joint venture factory to build scale brass engines at a fraction of the current costs.

Are you saying that a lot of seniors won't go to York because they don't want to spend the extra $7. That's crazy.

Too bad that neither Eddie nor l can take the train to York. I have no clue where my closest passenger station is. Last l checked, not lately, it was a concrete platform up in NE Indiana, with no place to park, and a long drive to get there.
Forgot to pre-register this time so I had to pay full price at the door and no senior discount and you know what? It was worth it.

Eddie can. Portland ME to Harrisburg PA involves about 14 hours via 4 trains, but you CAN do it.

You can't go from Portland, Maine to Harrisburg, PA in one day by train. Check your train schedules.
I looked into the train. I'm also from the Greater Portland, Maine area. I would take a direct bus from Portland to Boston South Station. Then a single train trip 6.5 hour (Acela) or 7.5 hour (Regional) straight from BOS to BWI, rent a car and then drive to York. But it's cheaper and faster to just get a direct Southwest Airlines flight from Portland to Baltimore. 1 hour flight time.
Now, to keep this thread on topic. I believe York will just be once a year. Just Fall. Probably starting in 2020 or 2021. After the current 2 year contract expires. Just my gut feeling!
Sorry Mike, I don't agree with you. I think York will be twice a year for a long time.
It may be a year or two (or even more) into the future, but I'm fairly confident York will eventually be a once-a-year gathering of the faithful (almost certainly October). It will simply become an issue of economic viability; not really something anyone wants to do just for the sake of simply doing it.

I've noticed that future York meet dates have been updated on the York Meet website. Both April and Oct. dates are set through 2023.
