I have some questions. Hopefully you kids could offer some good answers. I have a 30-2126-1 AA and I also have the accompanied B unit. It is built in 1998. I think it is the original Protosound. I recently purchase a brand new DCS WIU and TIU. Which works all my MTH trains marvelously. Even a Proto 2 engine. Here are my questions.

1. I can not seem to be able to operate the 1998 proto engine. Should it be operable?

2. If my new DCS is not able to operate the original proto engine, what are my options?

I can run conventionally. I do not want to. I would like to have all my engines run with in the proto 3, with my new DCS.

Well, you certainly aren't going to run that PS/1 engine with DCS, so the options are to replace it or do a PS/3 upgrade. If you are unable to do the work yourself, you're likely looking at around $300 or a bit more for the upgrade.

Gun, how hard is it to do the work myself. I was reading a bit on it. It seems complicated to a degree. Do you know anyone that does the work?
