Hi all, how would I go about checking armature and field components for my 332AC loco? I am sure reverse unit is OK, power is getting through to the armature (sparking at contact with brushes), armature is turning freely, all wires seem to be connected correctly.

What should I do next ? Perhaps armature and/or field are burned out ? How could I detect this ?

I have a can motor to replace but I want to be sure the old motor is spent before I take this drastic step.

Thank you.

Just check continuity on the field with an ohm meter. Check for open segments in the armature by testing continuity between them with the ohm meter.

Test by jumping either field leaf with either brush and apply power to the other two leads. The motor should run. If so then the components are ok. If assembled with the tender leads connected and it does not run then you have a wiring issue.
