This whole project started when I bought a Union Pacific DC-3 from a forum member.  I got a good deal on it and I considered leaving it as is in Up yellow. I’m not one to usually leave well enough alone so I decided on making it a more unique rail car. Being a B&M fan it was a no brainer as to what road I would make it. I tore it all down detail pieces and all and got to work. Some of the modifications I made was removing the 3 middle sets of trucks that were part of the inspection car and the usual paint, decals and hand painted passengers I added to the car.  After about a weeks worth of work in painting and putting the car back together I was ready to reunite the body and chassis and take it out for a run!    Well the old 5V board had other ideas!  She was dead on the track but looked good doing it anyway. Enter Marty “They haven’t made anything yet I can’t fix” Fitzhenry!    Marty installed a new MTH PS-3/2 board which can be installed in place of an old PS-2 without having to change all the lighting and everything else.  The only thing the board can’t use is the original speaker. Marty found a cool Boston & Maine sound file for it and she was ready to roll!!  Below are some photos and video of the finished rail car.

John, I will ask Chris to bring it to the house next Friday so you can see it run on the layout.  Chris does some cool B&M items.  Those of us who run MTH equipment are so lucky Mike put energy into  developing the PS-3/2 board to replace the old 5 volt board.  Some great MTH equipment exists with the early 5 volt boards and this board vaults you to PS3.

Chris did the hard work making the car Boston and Maine.  I had the easy job converting the electronics.

I never understood why MTH never made a primier doodle bug from that DC,3. I have two undecorated shells and trucks- no metal base or undercarriage detail for each and am looking to do a couple of brill prr doodlebugs.

My thoughts exactly - offer something new with little investment (when compared to brand new tooling for a product). This outside the box thinking is lacking in MTH's world it seems, these days.

This is a great looking conversion. I'd love to have one myself if ever offered. I've got a Warbonnet Santa Fe doodlebug in HO from Spectrum/Bachmann that is a real looker.
