I'm new to model railroading, kind of. So the princess has authorized a Christmas train, but it cant turn into a "full blown obsession" apparently I have too many of those full blown obsession hobbies.

This year I ran an O54 loop under the tree with "my engine", 5 borrowed cars and 3 ceramic buildings and a crossing gate.

So for 2019, Im got some track coming, Tuesday Feb 19th.

The inner loop

The plan is a 90 degree crossover, 15" of straight track, to 270* of O42, 15" of track back to the crossover.

The outer loop,

10" of straight track to 90* of O42 and 90* of O54, followed by 30" of straight track, 90* O54, 30" of track, 90* O54 and 90* O42, 10" of straight will get back to the crossover.

I used SCARM, and it's not prefect. But i think it'll go together

SCARM says its a 99" layout so that won't fit in the space, but the general idea will remain the same.

The blue dots note the "trouble areas" a cross isnt a true 10" so thats one and the bad where that loops connect is a slight over lap.

But i think they'll work themselves out. The track will be here tomorrow. Pretty excited.

And might put the larger diameter track on the outside of the smaller radius for appearances only

Is there a question here?

Not really. More of a stream of conciousness. Start to finish. With an under lying hope that everyone here as more experience than I do and could ease any growing pains.

Thanks Rob Johnson. Ill make another effort with SCARM and hopefully next weekend I'll have it built. Hopefully my stepdad can venture this way with some cars so it's more than an engine, tender, caboose trial run

With Thanksgiving in the rear view, its Christmas time20191129_104838

The 8' x 8' plywood was just too large for the room. I would have cut a 3' x 3' square out of the corner but our recliners would have been cramped.

I decided to use 3/8" OSB sheeting and 1" polystyrene insulation.

So I reduced the layout to a 4' x 8' sheet with 0-42 curves

I decided to use 3/8" OSB sheeting and 1" polystyrene insulation. The insulation will "crush" when walked on so a little scrap plywood piece is used to protect the surface.
