Command programming lost

If two completely different engines and systems have the same issues I'd guess it is the Legacy system. Cab-2 or Cab-1L system? Do your issues occur in the same spot or anywhere on the layout?

I have Lionel Legacy 6-81225 Rock Island E8 pair, and just about every time power is applied its goofed up, I press Aux1 Key0 and it toots its horn and starts responding to the CAB1L commands. No idea about your ERR loco.

There was a run of Legacy models that had trouble remembering their TMCC ID, Lionel was fixing them for free.  Check with them on those.  As for the ERR locomotive, that's probably a flaky R4LC-C08 board, that's the only thing that could forget the ID.

Here's a little more information. The steamer with ERR command, shows a lot of sparking from rollers under the tender. There are also two rollers under the engine that don't spark, and all four rollers are connected by one of the wires running through the connector plug between the engine and tender. All this started after having reminded it what it's ID code is. The ERR boards had been returned earlier to GRJ for checkout a few weeks ago because I was having trouble programming the engine. I believe the real problem at that time was a poorly seated radio board to the command board. I checked that to see that it is still seated.

The other engine problem involves the Lionel T&P F7 ABA where the lead engine has forgotten its ID. The F7B Bass unit seems to have remembered its ID. I haven't seen sparking from rollers on these engines. I have reprogrammed the A unit but haven't yet retried them as a train. I'll do that this afternoon.

How old are the F7s?  If memory serve me correctly about a year ago Lionel had an issue with engines remembering their ID.  Folks returned them for repair.  It might be the same issue.

Weren't the Texas & Pacific F's from a few years ago? (They had to be returned because the cabs were painted the incorrect color) IIRC the PA's and RS units which were forgetting their ID were from last year.
