I remember there being a great deal of discussion about the right way to connect the Lionel Backshop for command operation. I can't find that discussion now that I'm ready to connect mine. What is the real, right connection for the power (center rail) and common to the pattern of clips on the bottom of the backshop?

Make sure you follow the wiring diagram from the manual.  What is stamped on the bottom of the accessory is wrong.  If you followed the stamping on the accessory, it will fry the mother board.

Once wired correctly, it should work in command or conventional mode.  If the command base is on, and then you apply power, it will start up in command.  I had to extend the antenna wire for the backshop for it properly pick up the command signal.  I just ran an extra antenna wire from inside the shop to the outside.  Without the extension, my backshop would only work in command mode, if I left the roof off.  It must be all the metal which can interfere with the signal.

Does your shop work in conventional mode?
