continued problems with PS3

Well a friend of mine sent me his PS 3 diesel engine that works fine on his layout after my problems with the used steam engine I bought and low a behold it does not make it around my layout ( when my 4 PS 2 engines do) as it goes a long the engine number on my DCS commander display start to flash and I have no control over the engine. When I run the PS2 engines inch by inch I never get the flashing number nor do I lose control ever. I have cleaned the rails, pickups and wheels and got no improvement. I have also checked all ground connections. It's like the PS 3 engines need more of an output from the commander. I also have a small volt meter that I attached to a set of trucks that when I wheel it around the layout it never drops more the a tenth of volt. Look for any advice help I can get.

Someone who has more experience with the DCS Commander may need to chime in for help. Here is something that I experienced the other night regarding PS3 engines and older TIUs.

My bench TIU is a first release REV. G.  It will operate any of my engines relatively well but every once in a while it loses communication with the PS3 engines and I lose control. Not a big deal on the work bench, that's why it's there and not on a layout. This REV. G also takes nearly twice as long to upload and download files to a PS3 engine vs. a REV. L TIU. Uploads and downloads with the REV. G to a PS2 engine work flawlessly and within the expected amount of time.

I'd be curious to know where the DCS Commander falls in terms of "TIU Revision" to see which revision it closes matches. I doubt it would be a REV. L but rather an early REV. I.

I've found that PS3 engines work the best with the REV. L TIU. Again, I'm not sure which "Revision" the DCS commander is or if MTH even did the revision hardware updates with them.
