I have often been asked the question by friends why I love the York Meet so much and my pat answer is the cottage industry guys. Sure, you can get some great deals on trains from the many dealers and members who attend, but there is no other place where you can find so many sellers with accessory items for your layout. Jack Pearce with his lighted vehicles and Harry Heike with his superb structures are both good examples. At the last October Meet, I was looking for a Shell tanker to match one I had purchased many years ago (hard to find) and I came across a seller who had just what I was looking for. I also found another Shell tanker to go with it for our refinery area.

If you are looking for that special item for your layout, the York Meet is the best place to start.

I strongly agree.  The smaller, often family type vendors at York get a lot of my business as well.  They are usually real excited about their products and eager to spend time and talk with you to describe what goes into their products and / or what they patterned them after.  Whether it be interior figures, custom built structures, bridges, electronic switches and controls, or scenery type items, they seem to price things reasonably, truly value your business, and are happy to see repeat buyers. For certain products they offer to take special decorating or finishing requests, work them up after the show, and send them quickly to you at home.  And if they don't have the type of item you need, they readily point you to another small vendor at the show who can help you - that's refreshing to see these days.

Even though you can view items on some of their websites, it's so cool to be able to see them up close and in person.  They always seem to look better that way!  I'm glad to be able to buy from these vendors who are willing to display their treasures at the Meet.
