I figured the folks here might appreciate this, but I apologize if I'm posting this thread to the wrong forum.

I recently had the good fortune of marrying my best friend after 6.5 years of dating - we had an absolute blast at our wedding, which was set at the Historic Trolley Barn in Atlanta, GA.  I knew she was a keeper when she not only supported me in my hobby, but actually embraced it, including starting to build her own collection!

We did our best to truly make the celebration our own, including having our puppy in the wedding as the ring bearer, serving beers we had brewed for the occasion, and of course having a few model trains present at the sign-in table:

For a bit of context, my wife grew up and went to college in Virginia and I in Georgia. Hopefully you can see past the anachronism and fallacy of having a lashup of a Virginian EL-C and a NS Heritage Savannah & Atlanta SD70ACe. Other than @franktrain (who was a guest at our wedding), I don't think any of the guests noticed :-)

A few photos from the big day:

We had an absolute blast at the wedding and are looking forward to spending the rest of our lives together!  We're excited to build our train layout once we have the space to do so :-D

Congrats!

My first reaction to seeing this was "hot cool is that?"

Then immediately, I thought, "I'd have been divorced by the end of the wedding day if I'd pulled something like that out." I bet others here would think the same thing.

I knew a guy who suggested a wedding at a tourist RR and his fiancée actually broke up with him over it...

I was privileged to attend Matt's wedding down in Atlanta and had a excellent time. Matt and I became train friends way back in the 1995 when his mom asked me if I could help Matt with his small HO layout. I know Matt would have preferred a locomotive roundhouse but one was not available and I think the trolley barn was a great venue.IMG_6408IMG_6409

I'm sure we will be seeing more from Matt and Lydia's train collecting.

Matt, Congratulations on your wedding. My wife has been a big supporter of my railroading interests, too.

In 1994, she got me back into the hobby by getting me a beaten up steamer from a local antiques store.

I dragged her to the opening of Steamtown...

Then, I dragged her out on a 6-hour (each way) trip to Horseshoe Curve in the last year of Conrail.

Since 2004, we do a twice-annual local Toy & Train show together, I with my interest in trains and she loves her stuffed animals (there is one on our table in the picture), so both enjoy it.

She has been a good sport and it looks like you have a great foundation to build on.

Thank you everyone for the kind words!

Yep, no sneaking required, at least not yet!  She's even gracious enough to let me keep some of the collection in a display case in our one-bedroom apartment:

She's definitely embraced the hobby, to the point where we'll go to train shows and she ends up with more loot than I (she likes the operating animal cars).  She's also not a stickler for scale like me, so the postwar Lionel and Railking rolling stock fit the bill.

We're starting our search for our first home now, so hopefully in the not-too-distant future the trains will be running on actual rails!

@franktrain, thank you again for coming down for our big weekend, it was an honor to have you!

My wife and I KNOW how lucky you and Lydia are!  You are both truly blessed to share life including this hobby!  I will never forget my wife's expression on our first date when discussing interests, hobbies, etc..  I mumbled "Trains....Model Railroading", her eyes grew as big as the dinner plates before us, and the rest has been blessed euphoria for as long as we have together on this earth.

And, the 'deal' was sealed on our first visit to York ever.......She was a door prize winner of a Lionel Christmas train set!

Keep the passion....kindle the love!
