Has the merger between Canadian Pacific and kansas city southern been fully approved and finalized yet?

will there be a new paint scheme for CPKC or will we see something like the SP and rio grande where both rosters combined but kept their respective paint scheme

I would like to see a scheme that unifies both railroads with design elements from both railroads

maybe Frank Swafford can whip up an idea for a CPKC paintscheme

No.

Nobody knows, yet.

How would THAT be accomplished?

Just what the executatives of CP needs.

Not sure if this will really go down as a merger of equals, like Burlington Northern and Santa Fe becoming BNSF? My hunch is it's really CP taking over KCS. KCS replaces Soo Line as the CP's lines in the US. Given that some Soo Line engines kept their Soo paint into the 2010s - there might even be a couple out there still - I would guess KCS stuff will remain in those colors for a long time, perhaps eventually being repainted into CP lettering / colors

Cody- I too am excited about this merger, especially the possibility of a new paint scheme.  Can’t wait to see what they come up with! JohnA

Well, I'm not excited about this merger at all, or any others that have occurred in the past 30+ years. One thing that made railroads interesting was the diversity of different lines and paint schemes. Much of that has been lost. Most recently, I was really bummed by the disappearance of the Santa Fe, not to mention the SP and Rio Grande and Soo Line. I'm unhappy that the great heritage of the Canadian Pacific is going to be lost, at least partially, by this merger and logo change, and that the KCS, about the last significant regional carrier and independent line, is going away. I'll really miss the KCS paint scheme, certainly one of the most ornate and colorful - and no doubt one of the most expensive - paint schemes in railroading.

Swafford is the man who could do it, for sure!

When the Soo Line 'merged' with the Milwaukee Road, it called itself something like "The Soo / Milwaukee System" for a couple of years. Then the Milwaukee was just folded into the Soo and disappeared. I suspect it's the same thing here, it will be "CPKC" officially but really it will really just be Canadian Pacific taking over KCS. It's unlikely there will be a new paint scheme, eventually it will all just be CP red (except maybe KCS-M and the Panama Canal Ry.?)
