Here are two billboards I made last year or so.  There is a light in the top under the removable roof.  They are double-sided.  The graphics were based on some local businesses as well as the 'standard' Lionel border:

Tom! That is insane! Lit too?! Wondering if you pieced together with std parts, or you made everything? It is gorgious! I have 4 x 6 train postcards I would love to use. They are advertisements for Flyer, Dorfan, Ives, and Lionel.

The lights are mounted under the roof, a single bulb in each.  Most of the parts were scratch built from sheet metal.  The brass ladders are from a Lionel Std. Gauge boxcar and the two support 'columns' are actually cutoffs from old electrical conduit.  I love the postcard idea!  I have a box of some vintage cards from a few local locations that no longer exist; may have to come up with some ideas to make a few more of these, haha.
