I will be attending the LCCA Convention in Danvers (near Boston) next month - July 19th -  27th. If anyone has or knows of a 'O' scale train layout that I could visit, PLEASE let me know ... have car with travel.

Are there any good 'O' scale train shops in the area?

Any 'must see' items of interest ... I am especially seeking information on non-tourist trap items and possible parks with some hiking trails ...

Oh did I mention that my wife really likes live steamers ... the 7.5 kind ... any in the area?

Thanks and

You are going to be in the Boston area for several days. Taking this into consideration, you may have some surplus time. We are a two plus hour drive form Danvers, but you are welcome to visit our two layouts, and if you pick a good day, we will take you for a boat ride (at out back door) as well.

The MBTA still has an operating PCC operation.  It is the Ashmont-Mattapan line.  It is only a few minutes from my home.  Not many PCC car operations left.  This is alive and well.  The area where I live is loaded with all sorts of trains.  Go to South Station and you will usually see between 1-3 Acela train sets.  South Station terminal is very active and you can walk the platforms and take pictures.

Boston has two large passenger train stations.  South Station I mentioned above that services Amtrak and MBTA Commuter rail to many locations in Massachusetts and Rhode Island.  On the north side is North Station servicing MBTA Commuter Rail to all points north of Boston.  You can get the commuter rail known to us as the "T"from the Danvers area and get to North Station.  When you are in North Station, a short walk will get you to South Station.  You can also take the subway from North Station to State Street and be only a few minutes to South Station.  If you ride the subway in Boston, keep an eye out for a man named Charlie.  He has been lost on the system for years and has never returned.  Yes, the same MTA, now MBTA that the Kingston Trio had in the song.

If you walk to South Station you will pass many world class sea food restaurants.  I dare you to walk by without going in.  If you take the subway from North Station to State Street you will be at the world famous Quincy Market.  Walking outside the station you will be on the site of the Boston Massacre.
