DCDR Board Compatability

Here are the types that I know about.

HM5 is for Mabuchi motors
FP6 is for Pitmans motors
YU1 is universal replacment

What's an EM2 and an FM3?

Looking up EM2 is says use the YU1

Looking at the FM3 it says use a HM5 so it would be for Mabuchi motor? (Diesel?)

 

The YU1 can be used in Steam or diesel accoding to my notes.

FM3 and EM2 are early driver boards for around 2000-2002 locos, now obsolete. HM5 boards are for 2 motor diesels, YU1 are for mostly electrics and steam. At one time Lionel had about 6-7 different driver boards that were specific for the motor that was installed in the engine. They have pared it down to about 3 now. Your swap should be fine.

So as I understand, it's them trying to tune the motor driver to the specific locomotive motor in question?  I have an Atlantic 4-4-2 that has the EM2 board in it as well.  It also has the Odyssey "jump" when you first power it on.
