The 10-pin powers markers in some locomotives, as well as that serial data connection. The six-pin is a factory programming jumper for the PIC debugger, you won't be using that one. I'd fool around with some LED's and a 1K series resistor, you may be able to dope out which ones are LED drives.
If you look closely they should be marked, but you have a Serial data in, one out for RS, and alternating +5V and ground for LEDs. The issue is that the 5V source is not strong, so be careful what you attach to it. G
The markings are so tiny that I'm not sure. I've never had the desire to do anything but plug one in. Truthfully, when I looked at the first one, the silkscreen was just a white line off the edge, so I didn't realize they actually labeled those pins.
