Hi GUYZ,

I have the DCS version 3.10 system and works fine.  I was wondering if I should go with a Rev L system and keep the 3.10 in reserve?  What are the advantages of having a newer system.  There is one on the For sale boards now that I might be interested in but would like to know what you GUYZ think?  Or should I just download newer software?  Thank you for your time.

If your system works, does all you want it to do and does it well, there's no reason to upgrade software.  If the same criteria are met, there's no reason to get a Rev L.

I would not buy any used DCS equipment unless it were from a trusted friend.

The newest software is version 5.0.  If you want to go wifi, you'll have to go 5.0, which will run on any DCS hardware regardless of vintage.  I have original issue TIUs and remote that are running version 5.0 of the software.

One of the great features of  version 4 &5 is the recover engine feature.  We don't use it very often but every now & then this feature saves a engine  a trip back to MTH or dealer.

Having said that  I  liked   version 3.1., Being a super mode runner version 4  4.1 and 4.2  had a few issues. poor speed scrolling etc.  If ever you  end up with  a engine that won't add maybe consider upgrading to Version 5.. Other wise if it ain't broke , don't fix it.

The difference between DCS 3.1 and anything from DCS 4.20 and up is huge.

DCS 4.3 and DCS 5.0 has many more features than DCS 3.1, has fewer bugs, runs TMCC 100% better, has the recover engine feature, has backup and restore for cloning and saving remote contents, and literally dozens of other improvements. DCS 5.0 is also required for use of the DCS App for smartphones and tablets.

Likewise, the Rev. L TIU is much more robust than the Rev. G, has much better signal strength, and has a USB port to eliminate serial COM port conversion from USB.

RJR,

Barry is correct a few of the Rev L's had 4.10, in fact I believe Willgee (Bill) upgraded mine because of this reason, before he sent it back to me, with my upgraded Rev l.

Got to admit this revision stuff I need to keep better track of, I let mine get some what out dated some times, and a mismatch situation played havoc with me one time, and I had a run away on my 2nd level that cost me some repair bills.

Dave, I bought a NIB Rev L about a year ago, and my remote reported that it had V3.## on it.  There may have been a glitch in the reporting process; I didn't pursue the issue and it has always worked fine.  Of course I upgraded it to the latest before I used it and upgraded it to 5.0 as soon as it was available.  Barry & I have chatted about this and could reach no reasonable explanation.
