Does anyone know how to decifer the code in a DCS remote backup to PC?

The only person I know personally, outside of MTH R&D, who can "decipher" the contents of a DCS backup file is Dave Hikel.

And is this the same script that would be restored to the WIFI system to get all accessories etc to it?

No, the two formats are very different. The format of the WiFi export file is actually rather easy to understand.

Barry,

Ok from what I can seem to figure out here from OGR searching, the remote backup file which is a .txt file, needs to me changed to MTH. According to the import function in the app, you are suppose to email  this file to a device with the app on it in my case an Ipad. It the states when opening this file on the device, you are suppose to open it with MTH DCS app however I do not get prompted to open the file and when it is opened, i just get the title of the file.

Am I on the wrong track here?

One other item here and I have my thoughts on this, any reason why MTH did not document this process in the  full manual? Seems to me this is an important function that most people would need.

Thank You

It the states when opening this file on the device, you are suppose to open it with MTH DCS app

No, it should not say that at all.

After receiving the E-mail on your iPad, just click on the attachment and you'll see a list of apps in which you can open the file. From the list, select the MTH app and follow the prompts.

Make sure, however, that you do not have any Z4K Tracks in the remote backup file. If you do, the import to an iOS (Apple) device will fail due to a bug in the app.

so in trying to activate any of the accessories from my Ipad, after tapping on the "on" button I keep receiving - Unexpected error, No active accessories.

Are you connected to the WIU/TIU? If not, nothing will work.

I suggest that you exercise a little patience and wait for my book to arrive. Then, read it and you'll most likely have a more enjoyable DCS experience.

Hello Barry - Ok so I am trying to find out what is going on here,  going back to my DCS remote backup, i changed the file type and extension to .MTH, I email it to myself with this attachment and imported the file via my Ipad and Iphone 8. In every case the file came in with the switches and accessories however they are not highlighted in the app. I have done what you suggested above but no result. If you manually add an accessory the entry is highlighted and it works. Any idea as what in my process here is missing or not correct.

Thank You

Hello Barry,

Ok here we go:

1- Used the MTH Loader to backup the DCS remote and saved the file to my laptop.

2- per the OGR forum found a thread that mentioned changing the file type and extension of the file to .MTH

3- Installed the premium wifi app to my ipad and Iphone 8.

4- Sent the file via email to my Ipad, tabbed on the file. at that point it did not recognize the file and gave me choices how to open the file, I selected the MTH App.

5- File was imported to the app however all of the accessories are grayed out and not highlighted.

6 -Refreshed the app by rebooting the Ipad, still the same issue.

7 -Deleted one accessory and manually re-added it, the accessory was highlighted and it worked.

Note here, the engines were brought in to the inactive list however they worked after vetting them to the active list.

Thanks very much.

I don't see where you ever connect the phone/tablet to the WIU in Settings/WiFi?

6 -Refreshed the app by rebooting the Ipad, still the same issue.

I also don't see where you refreshed the app after the import was completed. Rebooting the device does not refresh the app.

I'm going to stop responding until your book arrives and you read it.

 Barry -

First of all, is the MTH WIFI app suppose to be in the iphone and Ipads background refresh list? If so, it is not and the wifi system works fine other then my current issue. I did turn the background refresh tab off and on and the issue remains. So don't know at this point what to tell you.

This whole issue may have been somewhat lessened if MTH had the complete instructions for this process in their manual as this is an important area that everyone is probably doing.

Thanks for your assistance.

While those ideas share the word "Refresh"...

I suspect  - refresh in the MTH app - means something different than the iOS setting  - not related.

Can I suggest you repost with a little clearer question?

Your initial post sort of suggests what you want to do - but the topic looks a little puzzling  - words like "remote backup" can mean all sorts of stuff - and "script" suggest something totally different.

Maybe a post like - "How do I export Data from my old MTH Handheld remote to my new wi-fi APP setup?"

You are far from the first person to do this - and I suspect you'll get a bit more guidance from others who have done this.

If anyone attending York is interested in they subject of transitioning from the DCS Remote to the DCS App, or learning more about the capabilities of the DCS App, I strongly suggest attending these two seminars at York:

Seminar 1: Transitioning To The DCS WiFi System - Thursday, April 19, 2018 - 12:45PM REGISTER HERE

This seminar addresses export from the DCS Remote to the DCS App, and between import/export between DCS Apps.

Seminar 3: Advanced DCS Features & Functions Using DCS WiFi - Thursday, April 19, 2018 - 4:30PM REGISTER HERE

MTH is hosting the first seminar and I'm hosting the second one. I also plan to be on-deck for all of the DCS seminars.

I'll also be hosting an in-between seminar for those who are contemplating the DCS App:

Seminar 2: An Introduction To The DCS Digital Command System - Thursday, April 19, 2018 - 3:15PM REGISTER HERE

All seminars will be held in the conference room of the Orange Hall (located down the right hallway when entering from the lobby doors).

Hi Barry -

I am sure that you remember our phone conversation of this issue, to recap you stated yes, there is an issue with IOS devices

and the import feature of accessories and switches caused by broke code form a previous update. Do you have any idea as to when a patch will come out to correct this? I have a friend of mine with a massive layout that has around 175 accessories and many switch tracks and is concerned and does not want to manually enter these things into the App.

i did speak with Andy at the April TCS and was told that withing a week or 2 the patch would be out (Ya right),

anyway, just thought that you may have some info on this. Thanks very much
