I picked up the MTH CP Holiday train, engine and cars, so I grabbed a DCS Remote Commander as well. Now I'm pretty much a Legacy guy, but I got it running, slower, faster, Volume up then oops, nothing... I hit the volume up and it just shot up. Got amazingly loud and then silence. Everything else works as it should, just no volume.

Pulled the CP engine off the tracks and placed a PS3 GN on. (30-1607-1) Turned the power on, aimed the remote, nothing. Tried several times, still nothing. Pulled the remote off and it runs just fine using the transformer. Any ideas what's up??

Jeff,

Here's MTH's method to reset the engine using the DCS Remote Commander.

This has come up from time to time regarding HO and O gauge engines
that don't seem to run with the DCS Remote Commander (The IR remote
and receiver that allow you to run an engine with limited DCS
commands that is included in Ready-To-Run sets in HO and O). The
reason is the engine is NOT on its default, out-of-the-box address.
This occurs ANY time you add it to a DCS system and do not Factory
Reset the engine.

There are two ways to reset an engine. One requires newer software
in the engine that understands a button sequence, the other is
through a full DCS system. Let's start with the DCS Remote Commander
button sequence:

1. Set the engine on the rails
2. Connect the DCS Remote Commander
3. Press the following buttons in the order listed below (remember -
you are pointing the remote at the IR base, not the engine)
SND
DIR
- (this the minus symbol indicated when you press on the bottom
half of the center, gray rocker)
You will get a two toot response from the engine and it will
now be alive with lights, sound smoke, etc

You now have control of your DCS engine at its Factory Address and you
are now able to run it with the DCS Remote Commander.

I found it, it was in the latest Remote Commander manual. It's PS3 and late 2014 or newer, looks like Dec 2013 doesn't make the cut.

Clip from manual:

"Proto-Sound® 3.0 engines built in late 2014 on can be reset with the DCS Remote Commander by pressing the sound button [SND], followed by the direction button [DIR], and lastly [ on the center rocker. This will factory reset the engine even if it is not on the correct address. When using a DCS Commander or a DCS System, follow the reset instructions in those device’s operating manuals."
