Dcs system

Running trains with an iPhone and a mini pad through Wi-Fi is great for me and grandkids. Would never go back to the remote. Other train guys may differ but once you get the hang of it’s much more fun and easy to use.

I like the remote better but the I phone app is ok!

I decided to stay with the remote because I like it. But the wi-fi is the future. And I just KNOW that the MTH guys are working on wi-fi-only features that  will make me drool. I think all development on the Remote has stopped and will not be resumed. So I just made sure I have plenty of remotes and a few spare thumbwheel parts. But I expect the remotes to end up with zero resale value while the wi-fi will do just fine.

Brian, I like the iPhone App better than the handheld remote because the thumbwheel on the remote makes my arthritic thumb hurt like the dickens.  I am able to hold the phone with one hand and use my index finger to do what I want.  

Now to the app itself.  I think it is very intuitive, and I'm 62, so some apps aren't as intuitive to me as I think they are to folks who use the phone for many things.  It works as well as the handheld remote, and I don't have to worry about buying up spare remote and thumbwheels before they go out of style.

My 16 Year old son purchased the DCS WIFI module and started using his phone.  I started using my phone too.  We quickly realized we were spending way too much time looking at the phone and not at the trains.  The DCS remote is just ergonomically perfect for Speed, DIR, Horn, and Bell without having to look to see what you want to do.

Also, the red ALL STOP button is much easier and natural on the remote too.  On the remote, you just push it.  On the phone you have to hold it.  To much to think about.

Lastly, it seems like the trains on the phone migrate to "inactive" more often than they do on the remote.  That is frustrating and why don't they just stay active until I decide?

Both of us gave up the WIFI and phone.  The only time we use it is when we have guests and have 3 or more operators (which is rare).

Technology is not always great.  Just because you can, doesn't mean you should.  My Dad always said that and now I understand.
