Hello all ..... Robert DeHanes displayed a SantaFe F unit and a set of extruded shiny aluminum cars at the York October 1986 meet ....no big deal you say ? Lionel did that in the 50's and everyone else has reproduced it ....yes but that is O gauge ....DeHanes built in Standard gauge .
The modern standard gauge market for anything other then a direct reproduction of an older piece is a bit thin ... so Dehanes rapidly found out to make any sort of return on his investment...or minimize losses he would also have to offer his sets in 1 gauge.
Dehanes out shined the big boys when his gleaming F unit was chosen to grace the cover of Smithsonian magazine December 1988. Dehanes unfortunately suffered a fire at his "factory" in 1992 ...which halted all train production . In a recent article in the TCAQ ..it was reported less than 90 sets were made ...unknown if that is only standard gauge ..or a combined total of standard and 1 gauge.
Here you have a video link to see engine #13 pulling a string of 30" DeHanes cars ...cars were offered in also the shorter 24" size ...F units offered in A & B ...could be had with one or two motors .
