As of now i expect to be viewing the layout mostly from inside but I would also like to walk around and view from the outside. These are the options I've come up with so far. My basement is paneled and the ceiling is unfinished. Plan is to paint whatever material i go with blue and buy some commercial scenic stuff to stick on it.

Fastening a Masonite backdrop to 3 walls and suspending Masonite from the ceiling at one end. I would have a 3' walkway between the bench-work and walls.

Fastening Masonite to the bench-work and leaving 24 or show inches above the ground level so i could still see from outside.

Using some stuff called task-board which is lightweight and cheap and fastening it to the bench-work again leaving 24" or so above the layout

Here's some shots of what I'm working with so you can see the need for a backdrop.

Any suggestions based on what you did or wish you would have done with your backdrop

I don't have any experience with backdrops, but reading your analysis and looking at the pictures, I like the backdrops on the walls.  When viewed from the opposite side of the room there should be a good optical illusion.  I like full and open viewing and not looking from behind under a backdrop.  Behind a backdrop it would feel like watching a play from behind the scenery.
