Larger speakers have worked for me for all of my sound systems. But it needs to be the right kind of larger speaker. Check your manufacturer's specs on impedance, then get a speaker with rare earth magnets. These are more expensive, but the volume and sound quality are better.

Also, is this for steam or diesel? Steam needs a speaker that has good low-frequency capability, as steam engines tend to produce lower pitch sounds than diesels.

 

Hi Matt, thanks will try the above either bigger speaker or the combo you said, Digitrax doesnt reccommend full volume on that speaker as it is only  1/4 watt but did increase it to about 75 percent on that cv. in addition to the s gauge hudson i put a digitrax 465 board in a railking pa no sound yet it it old speaker 8 ohm is that speaker to large to hook up the sound bug to
