I purchased a new Railsounds Diner planning to transplant the electronics into my MTH Baggage Car.  It looks pretty straight forward with the exception of:

There is a sensor mounted to the truck.  It senses a spinning disc on the axle when the car is moving.  I know what it does, just not how.  Can it be removed from the existing axle and put on than axle on the MTH truck?  If yes, how to remove and reinstall.  If not, what would be the best solution that keeps the sensor that reads motion?

You'll probably have to transplant the axle with the sensor, you can't remove the magnet ring very easily, if at all.  Of course, you can replace the hall effect sensor with a reed switch and magnet.

The fact that it is a magnet ring makes me feel a lot better.  I was going to transplant the axle if that were the case.  I know I need to do a little metal work creating the clearance on the MTH truck.  Would have been nice if the pivot points were the same.  No such luck.  The Lionel is offset and the base of the MTH is molded plastic complete with bosses and other non-flat features.

Swapped out the axles and put the one with the magnetic ring on the MTH truck.  Very little work with saw and mounted the reader to the truck.  Works flawlessly.
