My summer project was building an O Scale display case. All materials were purchased from Menards, Red Oak boards and plywood and the Acrylic for the upper case sliding doors. I made the case as a knock off of my gun cabinet, I just adjusted the size to meet my needs. All molding and door tracks I made from Red Oak boards . I cut grooves in the shelving to match the wheel size. Not sure if I'll need lighting but I have some battery  powered Puck lights  if needed.

Lee. that is some classy work!  It is evident that you are truly a skilled craftsman.  I like the plexi doors to keep the dust out.   For lighting you could also look at the LED strips people use for lighting passenger cars.  They're inexpensive on eBay and come in long rolls that can be cut to the length you need and adhered to the bottom of the shelf above the trains.

Thanks for the inspiration!
