I was considering buying MTH European trains but didn’t due to the scale differences. I used to have models of European locomotives (EMD Class 66, Bombardier IORE, Siemens ES64F4) when I was into HO scale but there all the HO scale models that I owned were 1:87 scale. But in O-Scale, MTH makes models of American models in 1:48 but models of European trains are either in 1:45 scale or 1:43.5 scale. The differences might not seem much to some but I care & I won’t buy these SCALE models.

I collect European. The scale difference doesn't bother me, especially as the European loading gauge tends to be smaller than the US one so their real trains are smaller and, if produced to a larger scale, seem to "fit in better" with US ones.

I haven't had difficulty obtaining them when pre-ordered through my dealer when the catalogs came out.  But, as the offerings haven't changed much in years, doesn't MTH have many of these available from stock? - even if dealers don't carry them?

I love mine, have 2 steam & 3 electric MTH & yes some times hard to find.

I have the Chappion 2-3-1 with the Orient Express Cars and that train runs great and also have the Swiss Crocodile,both trains run great and Look good.

No MTH does not have much European trains anymore only a few pieces. The ones that everybody are looking for are all gone. Mostly locos and orient express coaches.  And MTH is simply not bringing out anything new nor are they re-editing any of their past models european. It’s a shame it is as if they are dropping the european stuff!!!

Which chapelon loco do you have? And which orient express coaches do you have the brown sets or the blue and cream sets?

I have almost everything they made in european except for certain paint jobs of certain steam locos. All european.

I have a few of the British engines.  They run great.

I have the Green Chapelon with the Blue Orient Express Cars and the Croc is  the redish color.

I don't collect MTH,  but I have two questions and a comment:

1.  I was wondering if that [ your statement ] included the items MTH made for European dealers, such as the Traxx Alpinisti or the Millet tank car(s) ?

2.  I have been told that MTH did two production runs of the Maggi car, the second one with the spelling error corrected.  Have you ever seen a corrected car     [ not including photos of MTH's prototype(s), which were correct ] ?

3.  I think the brown Golden Arrow cars are very good looking;  perhaps, considering how well it sold, MTH should consider doing a second, 5 car "all brown" set, perhaps using the OCEM trucks [ further research needed ] since the brown era predated roller bearings....... [ Disclaimer:  I wouldn't buy one, though;  wrong era .  Further disclaimer:  I did have the initial brown set, but I bought it just to get the trucks to put underneath OCEM's.]
