excited about going to York now as you were the first time you went?

My first time to York was back in 1984.  I think I drove 90 miles an hour to get there.  Yes, you could say I was a bit excited to go.  I seem to remember the excitement waning after a few trips.  After that it was just another train show.  Although much larger.  Then I stopped going altogether.

A few years ago I started going back to York.  I guess that short break did me some good because I felt the excitement building again.  Over the last few York trips it still feels good to be going.  Even though the drive is tiresome I am excited to go later this month.  Looking forward to the trains and seeing some old friends and meeting some new friends.

Just wandering if anyone has had this feeling?

No, I let Eddie G. have all the excitement.  I just look forward to going when I can, and I invariably enjoy myself while I'm there.  But it's really something I can live with or live without, if need be.  In fact, I was not planning to attend this month, but since my aging pooch has to go in for a couple of days of medical tests, I scheduled her vet clinic visit to coincide with York.

Of course, bear in mind that I work with the hobby every day, so it's somewhat understandable (I hope) that my level of excitement over a single event might be somewhat tempered.

My first time going, I was so excited that I made the trip (5 hour round trip) both Thursday and Friday. I have not been that excited since, but I am still excited to go, especially this time, since I did not get to go in the Fall, since it was my last day at my first student teaching placement, and I figured the kids were going to throw me a party.

I've been on notch 8 ever since I went to my first York Meet in 1982.  Any other train meet or show, except for Allentown, is just time filler until the York Meet.

Each York Meet has been better than the last, with all the friends I've met through the TCA and the OGR Forum, it's a four day party for me!! It's all about the trains and the friends!!

I also use to drive 90 MPH to get there when I only went on Friday.  Now I take my time and drive 50MPH and arrive on Wednesday.

This month's meet will be my 17th...and I fly in from the West Coast each and every time for the friends, the layout visits, the trains, and the opportunity to play tourist in the area from North Carolina to Maine.  I've been able to visit all the major Civil War sites, almost all of the Smithsonian, and to ride on almost all tourist trains in the region among other things.

And, the enthusiasm is still there....

This will only be my second York and it's back to back. While most everyone so far is a long time attendee, I am more excited than last year. The first shot out of the block was a little daunting, I didn't know anyone, and I significantly underestimated the size and scope.

So I'm more prepared. I hope to meet more folks, I'm attending some of the functions, and can't wait to get going!

It's marked on the yearly calendar at the beginning of the year so nothing gets planned on at least the Thursday and Friday during that key week in April and in October.

My sales manager knows not to plan anything major as I won't be there to sell. Nabisco can give the entire cookie line away that week for 1/2 pruice or free and I'm still attending York.

This will be #42 or #43 consecutively since 1992 and don't plan on missing any until they put a thousand pound stone above me 6 feet down.

York is that great of an event to attend.

I was so excited I got a ticket for going 82 mph on Rt.30! I don't "count the days" like many of you seem to, probably because I'm retired, and most days are a "holiday" for me. I very much like the walking and looking, and I usually spend very little. Like Brian, I also like the Allentown show...mainly for the pre-show breakfast with 20 or so Forum members.

This time "York week" will be extra special for me...Disney World with grandkids Sun.-Thurs., York Meet on Fri., and Saturday I'm meeting with a person who lives in York to discuss publishing some of our 3-D slides that were taken in the 1950s.
