They're well worth it, not $1800 worth it but even if you spend $1250 I think some of them are worth that. UP ones are worth it, GEVOs are sweet and the CP RAIL ones are better than the GE ones. BSA is pretty cool but not worth what people are trying to get. I have a couple of them and they're all on the list with my 261 as not for sale

I just want the die cast ones for durability, is it worth it? I just love diecast but they aren't made often and I'm wondering if I should just stay to plastic diesels

This is a first.  Isn't Everything other than the shell the same?

Buy three plastic diesels instead. Two powered and one dummy.

I'm just $100 short of being able to order a new one that's why I came to ask if anyone wanted to sell a used one.

Buy a plastic one your not gonna get a diecast one for under 1k . As I guy that's had 30 of these go threw my hands I know .. Yes I buy and sell trains for market value I am guilty . I don't over inflate though.

Take a look on ebay, there are a bunch.

The KCS @1250 is probably the best bang for your buck, however, still a bit steep for that road-name.

The most desirable renditions are:

UP BSA 2010 (usually go for $1500+)

GE EVO Hybrid (market has softened for this one for some reason, at least the current market trend).

BNSF #6431 and the extremely elusive BNSF #6436

Good luck, I had them all at one point, they are amazing!

Yea the ge evos are only pulling 1300 to1400 after fees .

cp rails1200 bnsf 1300 boyscout name your price. Union Pacific 1200 kc 1100

I don't get the charge of price gouging if the item is an optional purchase. There is certainly a gray area on some things like meds, etc. and certainly gouging on live saving items, but a toy train? Is $40,000 to much for a 100 year old new in the original box train set? It's up to the buyer and seller. I think a lot of the gouging accusations are by folks who don't want and wouldn't buy the item if it were near free anyway. Just critics and complainers.
