On the night before the Joliet Rocket, several car hosts were at LaSalle Street Station setting up the event. It was dark, and a commuter train was sitting on track 4 waiting to depart. The Sears Tower (Yes, I still call it that.) made a perfect backdrop for some of the pictures. Metra 425, the Rock Island heritage unit, was scheduled to pull the Joliet Rocket out of Chicago, but it suffered a mechanical problem and would be sidelined. While setting up, Metra crews parked it on track 1 where it stayed for the entire weekend.

WOW!  Never knew about the 425.  Not even any rumblings from the Friday night gang at the old LHS.

I dare say: It's cool.

Hi Brody, Thanks for posting the photos...they look great...especially with the “Sears Tower” in the background!

This is one that I took arriving on the Superdome...

I stayed at the Marriott on Adams last December, it was about 2 blocks away from the tower and the window in my room faced right toward it. Went to the top a couple of years ago and stood out on the glass overlook...neat experience...

I do have a quick question for you...did the “Rock Island Night Shoot” take place at the Lasalle Station...I think it was scheduled for Saturday night? Didn’t see them on display in the area...thought maybe I missed them...

Cancelled. The RI E-units had mechanical issues discovered during inspection prior to movement to Chicago. There wasn't enough time to repair same so they stayed in Iowa hence no display or night photo session at LaSalle Street station.

When we were setting up in the terminal, it's red emergency strobe was going off and the Metra guys were working on whatever the problem was.
