No, he did NOT! Doyle was born and raised in an NKP family. His father was a Dispatcher on the NKP, both Doyle and his older brother worked for the NKP, and then the N&W after the NKP/N&W merger.

Perhaps you misunderstood what I said here as I am aware of and did read a little of his family history with the NKP - what I meant to convey was that I personally didn't care for the scheme solely for aesthetic reasons, not that he didn't! I have nothing against the NKP.

  It is arguably the least attractive scheme of any PA ever produced. The design itself is awkward and the lettering on the sides is very poor from a readability standpoint - it just doesn't work!

Yes it is and that's from purely a design standpoint if you get my drift.

My first diesel as a boy was Gilbert's 360 Santa Fe AB Alco PA. Has always been one of my favorites. My present roster has 3rd Rail's beautiful D&H PA AA pair heading up Lionel's 80' D&H passenger set. I like the Alco PA's a lot. Also have Lionel's D&RG 'Bumble Bee' Alco PA's.

Again, no offense intended here at all!

Seeing her again in the Warbonnet colors or the beautiful D&H scheme as favored by many of you will be a welcome sight!  Hats off to everyone involved.

One other point, ”NPR” is National Public Radio. The Nickel Plate Road’s abbreviation is “NKP.”

When I was 18 in June 1980 I was introduced to the Nickel Plate PA-1 paint scheme by my late friend, Alco fan John W. Nelsen. We were at a hobby shop in Flemington, NJ near the Black River and Western (We were going to ride behind 2-8-0 #60).  John showed me an Athearn HO scale Alco PA-1 painted for Nickel Plate. I thought it was very handsome, but not being into Nickel Plate I passed on buying it (plus at that age I had to husband my money very carefully). Every now and then I think about buying one, just because it is so nice looking.
