This Thursday at 5:30 PM, TCM will show The Train . Like many of us here on the Forum, it's my #1 train movie. I only wish some of the others ("God's County and The Woman" & " The Silver Streak" (1934) in my 10 best were available on DVDs.

Now let the comments/discussions/debates begin as to what constitutes a train movie. Must the film center almost exclusively on trains (and affiliated surrounds) or can it just contain significant scene(s) on railroading such as "North By Northwest"?

Whatever your personal preference is, enjoy the movie.

My opinion, the perfect train movie requires more than just significant scenes. Though predictable and somewhat improbable my vote goes to Unstoppable. My even stronger preference is just for plotless train movies. The History of Trains, Part II: Age of Diesels is my favorite.
