I have a number of dead DZ-1000, which have been experiencing failures at 14V AC ; I think 5 now in the dead box.  The either seize or just quit working.  Most older ones that have been on the layout for some time seem to be able to escape the same fate.  1 still on the layout has the manual button on the top sheared off but continues to work reliably.

I had that same problem with two new ones.  Dennis advised that the 1000 does not like full 18 volts sometimes.  He told me to take cover off, and when I did, sure enough the gear had come off of the shaft.  I put some glue on the shaft, carefully worked back on and now limit my voltage to about 12 for those two and the rest of the 1000s.  Fixed, thanks Dennis.  The 2500s however like the 18 volts.  Maybe it was just an oddball pair as this is the first time I have had an issue with either species.
