I have done this before but cannot find the component list to do it again.  I have a control panel to run my DZ1000 switch machines.  Each switch has 2 momentary push buttons and separate red and green LED's to indicate switch position.  Each LED has a resistor and diode in series on the + side of the LED but also a small resistor ACROSS the led +/-.  The LED's and switches share a common (ground) and there are jumper wires such that the wire to the green button feeds the red led and the wire to the red button feeds the green led.  I'll try to upload a diagram.  The question is, what does the resistor ACROSS the LED +/- accomplish and is it needed?  Also, what are the values for the LED's resistors and diodes?  I'm not an electronics expert but I can follow and diagram and solder things up pretty well.  Thanks!
