GRJ,

Here are links to some of the decoders that ES44AC is referring to.

Loksound V4.0 M4

Loksound V4.0 The Reference

Loksound L Premium DCC and Sound in O scale

All of the above are indicated as O scale.  The first two indicate that they have an analog mode.

This one is for G Scale but also indicates an analog mode.

Loksound XL V4.0 Big Sound for Big Engines

In the world of DCC, Loksound is known for having high quality sound files for their decoders.  They are also some of the more expensive decoders.

Actually LJ, LokSound are some of the more affordable decoders for HO and N scale, A LokSound Select decoder will run you less than $100 for HO and N and since they have a spike load limit of 1.5 amps for the motor you could use them on some O scale locos. They are much more expensive for larger trains and the LokSound XL will run you about $300. I use them quite a bit in HO and N scale installs for customers because I get great sound and lots of volume for the money.

I am looking at the Loksound 4.0 XL.

Matt,

My price observation is based on looking into sound decoders for Kato N-scale P42's and F40's.  The great thing about Loksound and Digitrax is that the sound files can be loaded for a specific loco.  Thanks for pointing out the Loksound prices as it made me look at them again.  I see they have a sound file for METRA MP36PH which is also one of my N-scale engines.  I'm thinking now that the Select Micro may be the way to go with that engine.

I have also used Digitrax sound decoders with edited sound files in modified 'streets vehicles running under DCC.

I have installed dozens of the LokSound Select in variouse N scale locos one of my favorites was an N scale Fox Valley Models ES44AC. ESU makes a little square speaker and if you can get two of them into the loco you will get amazing sound. One sounds great but two wired in parallel sound incredible
