I would stick with my toy train 4x10 or a 5x10. I've been doing some accessory wiring before the garage turns into an oven and it's a pain in the rear even though I elected to keep the wires up top instead of running them underneath the table. Velcro hooks hold to the outdoor carpet covering quite nicely and help keep it organized.  Too old for that foolishness of crawling around down below and anyway that space is occupied by various hobby plastic tubs.

Pete,
They make one now that you remove about 2 feet of one wall stud and frame inside that rectangle. So now you ahve a 2 foot by 32 inch opening. The unit slides right in and looks pretty decent . I wired an outlet for a guy last summer who was turning the garage into a play room for his grand kids. It worked really well.
His was a thru the wall combination A/C heat unit.
Just in case you need something to do when it's so hot you'll melt the wings on those planes.

You can also get an expandable unit: evap & fan and compressor & condenser coil, with 2 flexible lines that connect them to go through a 2" hole in the wall, and add as many evaps as you need. I think it's made by Panasonic or Samsung. Call a HVAC contractor, they were designed for installation in older homes that have radiators or baseboard fin-type units rather than forced-air (ducted) heating.
