Failure to connect bluetooth

Just purchased a Lionchief Blue Comet train. Works nicely with the remote, but I am unable to get my Android phone (LG20) to even see the bluetooth signal, let alone connect. Tried it on an older Samsung Tablet, with the same result.

My LionChief App shows no connected locomotive. When I try to add an engine, the app responds "Searching for new engine", then stops searching, finding nothing.

I have the engine powered on. With the remote turned off, the lantern in the coach blinks and the coach chips. When I turn the remote on, the lantern goes steady and the chirping stops.

Any suggestions are appreciated.
