I'm working on redoing my layout with 072 switches, 044.5in curves and a run through yard for my subways. A few questions though. When measuring with SCARM, is the little line on each end where the roadbed ends on the fastrack? Next, on my current layout (using 036 curves and switches) on the file, it looks like it has more space between the tracks than with 072 switches. I thought that 072 switches were 6" on center and 036 were 6.75"? Forgive the blanks on the RT file, I don't have the paid edition of SCARM.

If you don't have the 1.375 inch insulator piece in between the O36 switches, it should be 6 inches. I think it's 6.06 inches in SCARM. It'll be more than that if you add the insulator, 6.75 sounds about right.

O72 has the opposite problem: You need the roadbedless insulator piece for the switch to work without modifying. Iirc it's 6 exactly in SCARM. It would be less without the insulator, probably in the 5.8 inch range.

Hope this helps!

Thanks. I didn't put the insulator piece in the file because I didn't put them on the track to begin with. I just separated the switches enough to not put power to both loop at the same time. So if I use 072s with the insulator, I'll get 6in between the tracks correct?
