Our club (Smoky Mtn Model Railroaders) has decided to build a smaller simple layout to take to the area nursing homes on a more regular basis. We've encountered so many alignment and connectivity problems with our current one that we've made this decision.
Are thinking to buy some 'Samsonite' 6' tables with folding legs and using Fastrack. Finances are tight and we're looking for a 'good deal' on a case (24) of 30" straights and any 10". 5.5" pieces 048 curves and the like. Good used condition is fine.
Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Thanks guys.

I have a lot of Fastrack, most used but workable. It came off when I removed a trainyard and one entire loop in favor of a lot of rebuilding, and made other changes to part of my layout.

I'll go up and catalog it and send you an e-mail later this afternoon. If you want it you are welcome to it. Its about a 250 mile drive from me to you, but we'd figure out some way to get it there.
I'll send you an email too but it might not get through, so . . .

You are welcome to all of it.

About 10% is new. The rest is used. One or two of those pieces might have issues (short circuit, bent) but no more than two or three.

About 75% of the used piece have the underside filled in with great stuff foam (to deaden sound)but are flat and can still be screwed or glued down like normal.

About 20% have some amount of terrain filler (the green powder we use as grass, vegetation still stuck along the edges and would have to be cleaned up, etc.

I think that is it.
How much did the foam help? Quite a lot.

It helps a noticeable amount. I got all quantitative with testing reduction in noise (unwanted sound) as opposed to the sound I wanted and measured things with a db meter. I posted the results months ago and doubt I could find the post now. Filling with foam helped alot. So did gluing it with spots of liguid nail rather than screwing it down, as did putting a layer of acoustic tile on the layout benchtop as sound deading. I had a whole list of things that I did all of them. One thing I noticed was that there was a lot more noise with rolling stock like reefers and boxcars than with tank cars and particulalry flat cars with loads. I taped their doors shut and filled them with great stuff and it really helped, too. Of course, I can't open the doors now, but you can't have everything . . .
Thanks again so much Lee.
We have enough for a full circle of 036 on hand plus a few 10" straights, one 30" and one 036 turnout, and that is it at present. Would like to use the larger curves if possible - any two fairly concentric.

We'd love to come over and pick it up but it seems that will be impractical right now. Will gladly pay for shipping to here.
We have a set-up scheduled next month for Valentine's Day in town and hope to put it together for that.
I picked up some other stuff for you.

In addition to what I listed earlier, I have added:

14 more 30" straights - total of 24 now

9 more 48" curves - this plus the earlier gives enough for one full circle (12).

If you can't come and get it, or don't know someone who will be in the Raleigh/Cary area and can stop by, I will start looking for someone who has to travel out your way and can drop them off with you. Obviously if you need this for Valentines day you can't wait until Feb. 15 when I said my co-worker would be driving through Ashville.
You're amazing Lee - Thanks!

Please also thank your friends who contributed too.
We are trying to make a decision on which tables to get and will start adapting them to be able to be clamped together. If you think you know someone coming this way or part-way in the next week or so, that would be good. Otherwise would appreciate your packing them for shipment and I'll get payment to you.

We might even 'name' the layout for you!

Do you ever get over this way yourself? Would love to have you for a visit as several of us have home layouts and co-founder Harold Clackett has a real Buffalo Ranch with a small herd to see. We're just off exit 24 (30 miles past Asheville) of I-40
Apologies to everyone for using the forum as a personal messaging center.

I need an address Sam. It's all packed - three boxes. I will ship it as soon as I have an address & phone number for.

If you can reply by e-mail this morning I will get it to UPS in time that they will get it going today. Otherwise will not leave their site not until Monday.
