Hello Everyone,

I am starting this thread to document my first 3-Rail layout. This layout is built on top of kitchen cabinets that I bought at the HD. It is 15ft x 12ft. I am modelling Florida East Coast RR. The reason for being everything flat.  Running the railroad will be run by MTH DCS WiFi. This layout was actually started on the 1st of January of this year (2020). The day before a couple of friends of mine came over and we took apart the old HO narrow gauge that I had on the same spot. So on the 1st of January I cleaned and prep the table top to start laying tracks. From the 2nd thru the 4th of January I kept buying tracks and installing. Since I was not familiar with the sizes of the MTH RealTrax, it was a learning curve. Although I was very impressed the way the Lionel tracks looked but what sold me on the MTH was the modular aspect of it. Easy to connect to powered the tracks and accessories. Plus the other big thing was the price on the turnouts of the MTH was a lot cheaper than the Lionel. So I ended getting the MTH tracks.

Power Units: As of now, I have a brand new still in the box that I bought on the 31st of December. It is a MTH SD40-2 with DCS system painted in the FEC RR Champion scheme colors. Eventually I am planning to get me another SD40-2. To me, because of the limited size layout that I have with 0-42 radiuses on every curves and turnout the SD40-2 will be the biggest I would like to have. The era will be modern but limited to 55' rolling stock.

Yesterday I ran all the feeders to a centralized place on the layout which I chose that it is the section against the wall. Today I connected all the feeders to the terminal board. Now I am just waiting for the DCS system to arrive in the mail

Your experience shows; it's happening pretty fast.

What's the story on the boat and dock area? Operating dock crane(s) or gantry crane?

Good question. I’m still debating. In matter of fact I just removed the blacktop to redo it. That’s one of the first place I want to attack when the time of the scenery will commence. For sure tomorrow the deck will be replace.

Hello my fellow members, I have continued working on the layout but I haven't taken the time to return and report. So here I am trying to catch up on the blog to report. Here I am upgrading the wharf and increasing the deck to flush with the top of the rail. I am using Masonite to make the blacktop

The ship. The ship is based out of a WW II Liberty Ship. Originally a good friend of mine who just recently passed away build it for me . He build it for our 2 rail O scale layout. It is a little too small for a true size O scale. The ship is closed to 5 feet long. But it gives a good representation of the ship. Like everything else in any scale, when you are modeling certain things, you have to improvised and adjust to make certain things because we're limited to the amount of real estate that we have.
