I've got a couple new Flyer cars made by Lionel.  I'm looking at the trucks which are larger than what Gilbert did.  Yes, the postwar trucks were sintered diecast and much smaller.  And these roll fine.  Do you wish, or do you think that Lionel could have replicated the old diecast even in plastic?  I think the fit with our postwar would be better and just as good.

The first Flyer cars made by Lionel in the late 70's early 80's had trucks similar to original Flyer knuckle coupler trucks.  Over time they cheapen the coupler with plastic knuckle springs, than change the knuckle design entirely so that it does not open as far and redesigned the trucks with the oversize monstrosities we now have.  This occurred, I believe, in the late 80's
