I have to ask, so obviously I can't afford it...

 

A model with this amount of detail must be lots of fun to ship...and how many of us have the thirty-seven people on hand at any given time who would be needed (plus the sterile operating room) to get the the thing out of the box for the first time?

Prices for this model are still unclear. At one point it was supposed to be in the range $6k-7K. I agree with you that shipping has to be done very carefully, but it would not be the first time that such exquisite models are shipped overseas (referring to Fine Art Models). I believe that one person should be enough to place it on the rails....

-no- both the Key and the Lionel are simply marvelous is very different ways.

Surprised to see no tender stays on the either end of tender.  I doubt this is an oversight but curious how the tender tank was secured to the tender frame?  Quite a model, to say the least!  Hard to top.

I thought Lionel's Vision Line engines were "highly" detailed, but this thing is amazing!!!!!!!!      

Does anyone know if the Lionel version has the air pump sound effect that is unique to the Cab forwards ? You can hear them in 0:16 in the above video. 

There is obviously a big difference between "highly detailed" and "correct in all details". While I am not an SP collector, this has to be one of the best, if not the best, model of a steam locomotive ever built. With that much detail, I would be greatly concerned re packaging, handling, and operating.....

Congrats to the crew that worked on this project...it is simply outstanding.

Too bad it's so homely - looks like an outhouse mounted on the back of the firebox.  I guess I must not  be much of a cab forward enthusiast.  None the less, tons of detail.

If I had started scratch building a comparable model in the Pleistocene Era, I would only be half way through, today, 2015!  How do these craftsman do it? How do they paint it? How do they research it? How do they solder it?

Einstein said the only miracle he was aware of was compound interest. If he had lived to see this model, he would have cited it as the second miracle.     Simply perfect!

Oh, the scale profile wheels gauged 5 foot is a nice touch and I hope it becomes more the rule on high end brass.

I believe all the Data, plans and photos for these projects are provided by the importer,Key and their staff. the small Korean builders provide the skill and expertise to produce models at this level, this is pretty much open checkbook territory supported by a small group of serious collectors/modelers.JMO

Ok, I want to see the train crew that could open these doors given size of the door closer springs?

ps Nice model.

I love the Lionel models.  I also love Key, PSC and other high end 2R brass.  Completely different 'animals' and room for them both in my collection.

 

I just bought two high end PSC models and waiting delivery.  The detail is amazing on the high end models and as many said, the serious hobbyist territory.  I don't take it to serious, but I love the details and wonderful models available.

Question: Are the light LED or bulbs? I hate to have to replace bulbs in a ????? priced locomotive. I had a $9000 locomotive that the bulbs in the marker lights kept burning out. Not fun to replace. Stephen
