I wanted to let folks know that we're listening. Our most requested promotion is always free shipping. We decided to crunch the numbers and cross our fingers, and we're now offering free shipping on orders of $500 or more at Trainz.com.

The full details are here but it's fairly simple. Once your order subtotal is $500 or greater the option for Free Shipping will appear during checkout. We'll be using our economy shipping option, a requirement to make this work without breaking the bank.

You can use your points code, or a current promotion code, while still getting the free shipping as an option. In the past we've had to make it an either/or situation, but now as long as the subtotal is $500 or more after any discounts or promotions, you can still check the box for free shipping.

We hope to make this a permanent offering at Trainz.com.

Thanks, Scott.  I'm a Private Car Member.  I would still love to see emails for members when new products are listed in my scale.  Without emails, what can I do except continually check Trainz.com to see if anything has been listed?  It's becoming tiresome!  Thanks for listening.

What scale are you collecting? We've been adjusting the newsletter recently (new format comes out Sunday evening) and we've been working to add an automatic way to give new listings preference when being displayed. That said depending on the scale, sometimes we don't have enough to populate a full newsletter with new listings.

I've thought about MikeH's request, which has been mentioned by several other folks, and it seems like this would better be served by an app rather than email. When new items are posted in a requested scale, or when items matching a saved search or watchlist item are posted/updated, the user would receive a notification in the app, and the user can choose how those notifications are displayed. Obviously other features similar to the Bay's app would make sense in a Trainz.com app as well. An app of this sort is no small feat, and I'm sure Scott and his team have looked into it in the past. I can tell that Trainz.com has invested a lot in technology to generate their current website and their simul-posting/updating to the Bay, so this may be something they want to tackle at some point.

Until then, I'll keep doing what I've been doing to see new items on the site: in a browser I always have the Exclusive Preview Items page up, filtered by Modern O Scale, and sorted by New to Old. Sometimes there are patterns to when items are posted during the day and week, but those patterns aren't always followed, so it's a bit of an adventure keeping up-to-date manually.

I hope to use the new free shipping option - thanks for working out a way for that to happen Scott!

I chose the economy shipping option a few times and would never do it again. It's FedEx Smart Post and they are absolutely the worst.

Items take twice as long to arrive and usually show up damaged. I filed 2 claims with Trainz on separate occasions where I made the mistake of selecting economy shipping. That's part of the reason I canceled my Premier membership.

Same here. I'd be happy if they used USPS ground.   Doesn't take any longer and it usually ends up in one piece.
