Ran across this recent snapshot in the "lengthened whisker tracks" area of my roundhouse. Lionel U28C. Those little "PRR" keystones were easy to cover up. Love the "Brunswick Green" (too light, actually, I'd say). So, now, it's a What-If M&O Boat.
I'm used to the O-gauge couplers, but from this close-up position - yikes!

Ugh! I'd love to have a Western Maryland one too. Probably that over the C&O one.
Resurrected this from an old negative I found in a box from the olden days. I had to trick my scanner into thinking it was 35mm film instead of the old 126 film. Sorry for the poor quality, but it outside of the front end of a U28B, it also shows NYC run through power on the CB&Q at the edge of Berwyn, IL.

Yes the WM has a stunning look. I had always liked the BL's soo ugly they are pretty! But none of my favored roads had any. I voiced that statement once and Mark Boyce came to the rescue. He told me of the MTH EMD demo version. Checked the MTH website and they had a very few left at a very low price (379) to a certain membership. Wanted one that could be used with any of a favorites as a demo. Contacted local deal who got one on order. When it arrived found it priced at the special price. With my customary discount bought it for less than $345.00 brand new.
Will always remember that Mark is responsible for me be able to find this jewel. Thank-you again Mark!

Into the vault from when I first got back into model trains. Here are some front end shots of the $40 EZ Toys G Scale Rio Grande trainset that my sons and I we were running on the plastic track through the back porch and yard back with the battery remote in 2011.
The train bug hit me hard and has stuck in multiple scale. My sons... not so much
1-I need to get into G Scale (the real ones, not plastic toys)
2-When, oh when, will battery operated locomotives come to O Gauge? That's a topic for another day

If you look carefully you can see people sitting on the front edge of the tender immediately behind the cab. That is where we rode as well. You get to watch the Engineer and Fireman plying their trade .

NYS&W Alco C430 #3004 at Little Ferry, NJ- Dec. 86'. On 02/03/87 this engine hit an ice packed crossing in upstate NY, flipped over and was wrecked ending its' career that began with the New York Central. Sister engine #3002 suffered a similar fate a few months later.

Good morning, a early in the season drop in temperature has coated the landscape with snow but has also frozen the water on the fill spout as I1 4248 and M1 6715 pull in to fill their tenders after dropping off a string of empty coal hoppers.
The firemen and rear brakeman of the I1 are looking to see what's frozen while the fireman from the M1 does routine checks of the drive rods.
Happy front end Friday !!!
"Front End" becomes a bit ambiguous with end-cab diesels, doesn't it?
Actually, with diesels more generally. EMD offered SW1500s with two sets of controls making the term pretty much irrelevant

From some of my travels this year...
On Sunday, September 29, 2019, Nickel Plate Road no. 765 heads into Akron on a calm day.

A sugar beet-hauling Decapod from Colorado alongside one of the finest 4-8-4's ever built, all happening in Lancaster County, PA in the 21st century. Who would've expected this to happen?
On Saturday, November 16, 2019, Pere Marquette no. 1225 puts on a show as she makes her way out of Owosso.

Dad took this pic at the Trolley Museum in Orbisonia, c. 1984
Dents Run RR Heisler locomotive, taken by Dad c. 1935. I've walked on the right-of-way, long since grown up in woods. The Flood of '36 put an end to this coal-hauling shortline.
Me taking a pic of Dad taking a pic of the front-end of B&P #3000. Allegheny River in the background. Shawmut RR and the diverging track in the foreground is the interchange with B&P nee B&O nee BR&P at Mosgrove.
Old&new. Brand new MTH SW1500 and a Lionel No 282 Portal Gantry Crane which is at least 64 years old.
For FEF I always like a good front end photo. Since we had that PRR Shark topic earlier, thought I'd show my Shark.
While I argued that the body and other details make this Lionel a (mostly) PRR BF15, from the front it is all BF16. It has the 3 chime horn, sand filler caps on the pilot, and the large nose door. I plan to remove that horn and replace it with the BF15's single chime horn, and remove the sand filler caps. Unfortunately, not much I can do about that door without some reconstruction beyond my capabilities.
And yes, the ladder (engineer side) that was added in 1960 will come off.
have a Merry Christmas ! " F E F " everyone
This is a picture from a few cameras ago. This was from 2015, the Christmas my Polar Express berkshire blew a motor and the 1947 2020 had to come to the recuse! Happy Front End Friday.

Although I rode the Yampa Mail in '63 and '64 Dad took this pic in '66 and I wasn't there. That dome was from the Royal Gorge consist which was truncated in '65 and the dome was moved to the Yampa Mail consist.
Late to the party. On the road to AZ, this is the closest to a front end I could get. Somebody tell me about those cars. Are they car carriers? Sure are a great canvas for the graffiti artists(?)
Have to get mine in before the clock strikes 12!

Here are a couple of PRR H (2-8-0) models.
The first wide firebox H6 (on the right), the H6a, was first built in 1901 and the last H6b was built in 1913. A total of 1,845 H6a and b engines were built with 699 superheated in the 1920s. These were Pennsy's primary freight haulers until the H8 started to arrive a little later in 1907 and took over mainline duties. The last iteration of the 2-8-0, the H10s (on the left), arrived in 1913. A total of 1,206 H8, H9, and H10 models were built, with many of the H8 engines rebuilt into H9. The H10 is a Weaver model, and the H6 is a 3rd Rail model. Both have ERR installations, and the H10 has an operating ElectroCoupler for branch line duties.
Note: There was no H7.
My Christmas present. My good friend John scratch build that S.B.R. FM Trainmaster. Really nice detailing work. ❤
That's a beauty Johan. Very nice details and weathering.

Still building layout but here's my entry into front end Friday. Both are K-Line with TMCC, the steamer is my 2-6-6-6 Allegheny and My Lackawana F-3
Good afternoon, Pennsy M1A # 6715 is sitting in the hole while Pennsy K4 # 3858 flys pass on the engineers side with a daily local passenger train and one head end milk car while Pennsy L1 # 520 pass on the fire mans side on the outer main line with a long boxcar drag.
Anyone in the mood for a Pennsy sandwich ?
Thru the trees beyond all this main line action a Pennsy B6 is shuffling load coal hoppers for Fritzville Coal.
The kids are getting a great show while they take a break from ice skating.

Here is a comparison of the front end of a Pennsy BP20 (left) and the front end of a BF16 (right).
The BP20 is a Weaver passenger Shark and the BF16 is a Lionel freight Shark. The Weaver's color looks closer to DGLE.

Both are nice looking units'. The Weaver appears to have a better fit and finish. The Lionel appears beefier. I wonder which one is the more prototypical?
I didn’t plan ahead this week, so here are some front end shots that I just took of a Miami Metrorail coming southbound into the Government Center station before heading home from work.
FYI - That is the Virgin Train/Brightline Station complex to the right of the elevated tracks. The southernmost part of the station are the Tri-Rail platforms, where Tri-Rail was to begin one-seat ride service to Downtown in Miami in 2017, then 2018, then 2019, then 2020. Well, you get the picture. Another story for another time.
Happy FEF!!!

Has anyone ever told you that you are a bad influence??? But if Lionel (or Atlas) ever makes one, I hope it will be the demonstrator - really sharp paint scheme.
Paul, if you really want one , you could always buy an MTH PS1 version and have it converted to TMCC.

Another bad influence is heard from!!!
But seriously, Larry, the thought did cross my mind, but I have no idea what would be involved (other than money!!!). I do own one MTH engine, a shelf queen Metro North Genesis in NH livery, which I would consider for a conversion.
