Love it; perhaps my favorite diesel paint scheme.

Had the Life Like N scale version; unfortunately, at one point I bought an MRC power pack that must have had some sort of "glitch", as it heated up the 18s motor to the degree that the sides melted slightly and got distorted...

Well another week goes by and its F.E.F again.  Great pictures guys, thanks for posting.  My contribution this week is a favorite of mine the mighty Marx 333 pulling her consist of NYC cars on the high speed line.  Steam is fading on the Leonardtown and Savannah since its 1944 but the war is still dragging on, so Steam still handles a lot of L&S passenger traffic as our diesel budget goes to switchers that can work the Port of Savannah loading convoys for the boys overseas.  So here is the L&S mid day express to Atlanta , still in the hands of steam.  With this mighty engine we will easily be in Atlanta in time for a nice dinner.  Old Joe, our senior engineer (40 year man) often bids this job because he can shop for his wife before the return tomorrow.  As he says, old 333 is "running like a Singer sewing machine!".

Happy F.E.F everyone.  Before I post my weekly contribution, I wanted to share a short story that revolves around a train like Rich Wienmann's Lionel Std Gauge #8.  Quite a few years ago, My brother, who is an accomplished guitar player revealed that he had a Lionel #8 freight set acquired from one of our uncles in the 50's.  It turns out I had a nice acoustic guitar acquired during a short lived 6th grade attraction to rock and roll (it was 1955) that I could not play...A marriage made in heaven!  I now have and run the wonderful #8 and he enjoys the guitar.

OK now what about F.E.F...well today, its a scene from the Leonardtown and Savannah during the late war years while the interurban was still providing service to the port of Savannah.  Much appreciated then (although soon forgotten after the war) during the days of gas rationing and heavy passenger need to get to the port for war work .  We see interurban car 2015  passing through the intersection of main street in Small Town just outside center city.

Happy F.E.F fellows:  Here is my add to the great listings so far.  The " mighty" Hafner 1010 streamlined steam loco gets ready to move her freight consist towards the next yard.  She is old, dating from 1938 to 1951 but ready to work.  Recent shop work has cleaned her skirts and given her a new coat of paint, as well as some boiler maintenance so she looks like new - but we all know steam is on the way out and soon she will be downgraded to locals, yard work, and pusher and then the scrap line.

Great Pictures Everyone, Thanks for a great Friday review!  We are getting ready to travel back home to Tx and so my photo's for today are limited to what is left on my computer till I get home and  renew my photo file.  Here is a bit of an odd one, it shows three "front ends" all of my Hornby modified tank engines awaiting their next assignment.  These are former clockwork engines that have been refitted with Marx electric drives.  This was a early e-bay purchase that actually worked out well despite my initial doubts and the fact that the engines are not "stock".  The Marx drives work beautifully including the remote reverse and can pull my various consists of Hornby freight and passenger wagons, so you get the look and the operation, but not the authenticity...I can live with that.

Good morning FEFers.  Here is my Weaver Pennsy H10.  I really like the detail!

Weaver 2-8-0 [3)

There were a total of 441 H10s steamers on Pennsy's roster.  However, only 273 were built new as a H10.  162 were rebuilt H8 steamers, and 6 were rebuilt H9.

The Weaver model has Cab Number 8421.  8421 was built as a H10s in 1915 and scrapped in 1949.

Amfleet251124 thanks for the pictures of the FEC, I always loved that livery.  I am going to follow along with the "real" trains photo's today, although I admit that "real" may be stretching it a little.  This is the Disney "Jungle Express" from Animal Land in Disney World Park in the summer of 2018.  Its a real locomotive in the sense that it pulls the train and sounds like steam but I am not sure that it really is steam powered.  It is a really neat illusion anyway.

So here is a "front end" as they say..."only a Mother could love!"  Being from Texas, I get the cow horns on the front.

Hers is a picture that shows just a little bit more of the engine.  Fun ride anyway even if its just pretend.

How about a pair of Postwar FA’s on my Super O layout!

Rich, I like the use of the Super O track.

Here is my entry for this week. Two photos of my N Scale Amtrak Acela that I took prior to my N Scale dispersal last year.  It was a difficult decision leaving N especially to concentrate on O because of the acres of space I had to work with on the train table, but I know it was the right decision.  I may buy an N Scale RTR Set or two in the future so that I can run on the my club's N layout just to get my fix.

Well Happy F.E.F folks...Here is a little Japanese Tin Plate for today's entry.  It is a bunker type switcher with an attached coal bunker marked NYC.  It is clearly O'Gauge but actually designed to work on a flat track type system (like an O'Gauge roadway) rather than actual rails.  The maker is "ALPS" and their trade mark is their name written over a line sketch of some mountains.  She is battery powered, using "D" cell inside the boiler.  She has a working head light and fwd/reverse action (manual reverse).

Here are photos of two 1:8 scale trains at the Tradewinds and Atlantic Railroad in Coconut Creek, FL that I took last December.  I plan on joining that club once things return to normal (they're currently closed to the public).  I know very little about steam engines, so if any of you know what the 1:1 version is of the steamer in the photo please let me know.

Lots of great front ends since I last checked in.

Larry, I love the Lionel "graffiti" on the mountainside.

Bob, very sharp sharks.  What brand?

Anyone have any info on Don's Wildlife Express?  The locos in the Magic Kingdom are steamers so Disney world does have a steam program.  Did they expand it with the new park.

Coach Joe:  Except for the pictures, I really have no further information on the Wild Life Express.  While the engine most certainly pulled the train and it gave out some indications of steam, I just did not see the products of combustion (smoke, heat) that I associate with a steam engine.  Their handling of passengers is such that you really cannot get very close to the engine ( I leaned WAY over a barrier to get the shots I posted) so I cannot say more.  If you are in the park however, Its a dandy little ride and seems quite authentic.

Hello and Happy F.E.F everyone!  Well its 1936 on the Leonardtown and Savannah and the Union Pacific's new M10005 streamliner is coming for a visit.  Large crowds gather at the downtown terminal to see this sleek new trainset...a vision of the future.  Of course the future would be somewhat different, diesels would dominate but the articulated streamliners would only be around for a few years...then of course there will be the war and steam will get a reprieve till the post war period. But!  All that is to come and today is just a day to celebrate the new train.

Here she is, as envisioned by Louis Marx in 1948-1950.  A Clockwork loco ready to take her consist out of town.

Marx UP Streamliner front

Here she is showing that she is a AA unit and as configured in 1936 would only pull a few articulated cars.  She was built for speed not capacity.

Great thread, guys!  Here's my scratch built AEM7 which I built in 2001.  It features working pans, opening doors. full interiors and complete lighting effects.  Why scratch built?  I saw two companies in O that made the unit and wanted one, but since I'm in S, the market just isn't there for anybody to make it, so I had no choice.  It took me over a year to get it finished, but it was worth it.

Absolutely stunning job Jerry!

Puts the "model" in model railroading. When the manufacturers won't make it for you, one has to make it for themselves. I don't have that skill set though.

Since 95+% of my trains are packed up pending a move, I have to look in my photo files to find things.  Here's my scratch built Thomas the Tank Engine that I made from photos of the Lionel O gauge one and scaled down to S.  That's why it resembles the Lionel one so much! LOL!

Again, since S is considered a "minority" scale, the big manufacturer(s) are reluctant to bring out as many new offerings as in O.  The smaller manufacturers are even more so.

Hi everyone...happy F.E.F.   This weekend is special on the Leonardtown and Savannah, where in order to celebrate the Holiday weekend, management has arranged for several class 1 RR (who want the advertising) to bring their new diesels down to the port yard at Savannah for view of the public.  Its a great display and we expect record crowds Sat through Monday.

Here are those "front ends" to celebrate F.E.F ...2 F-3's (NYC and Wabash) and 2 PA's (Texas and Erie).  They will be part of the exhibit over the weekend and we are inviting everyone to the port of Savannah to view these "new" steeds (after all its frozen in the 1950s on the L&S).

Here is a somewhat longer shot, showing the waterfront street bounding the yard.

Have a great weekend everyone...for me this is just an ordinary weekend, the college has cancelled the Labor Day Holiday in order to shorten the semester due to COVID.  Kids / Parents save on room/board and we lower expenses since the loss of sports income, lower enrollment, and other event  cancellations were a real budget hit.

Happy F.E.F everyone.  My front view this week is a bit unusual and much earlier than the F-3 / PA-1's I posted last Friday.  This is my NEW (new to me of course) American Flyer Type XI 0-4-0 engine, cataloged from 1923-1926 so he is almost 100 years old.  He carries the logo..."A.F. No 16" under the cab window and is cast iron.  The tender shows "American Flyer Lines" inside a red/white rectangle on the sides and the number "120" in a similar rectangle on the rear.   He is clockwork (motor works like a champ) and it came with a brake rail in the set and it has a cab brake for winding.  I will post some pictures of the full train in the Tinplate section later today.  I suppose I could get the dust off him, but whoever saw a steam engine without some dirt on it!

BAR GP/ #63: WOW!  Neat shot of the two VR (Finnish Railway) road switchers.  Is the unit in the foreground wearing the current color scheme?

Thank you. The front locomotive has a newer painting version but the newest is gray green. The Dv12 series was built mainly in the 1960s and 1970s and now VR has ordered new Stadler diesels. In a few years, the Dv12 series will largely disappear from the rail network.

Johan:  The "Green Machines" are Cool Cats!  Does VR interchange with Russian Railways?  I assume it's performed on 5 Ft. gauge and not standard in the event there is interchange taking place between the two countries?

I like the Dv12 2700 series the most. Yes, VR, Fenniarail and Operail has interchange with Russian Railways. Here in Finland the gauge is 1524mm and in Russia 1521mm,  so the different is only 3mm. I can see some Russian tank cars hear near at my home every day.

Johan: While I was empoyed in the Deutsche Bundesbahn Nuremberg hump yard in the 80s we received tank cars from Russia.  I remember when several got away from a crew and were sent to the runaway track.  What a mess.  Thankfully, they were empty at the time.  Then in the 90s after I had left my switching duties behind me and was employed as a service rep at the Nuremberg Hauptbahnhof, we had a through sleeper from Russia that terminated in Munich.  They were still in the green scheme with the Russian Ry. crest on the car side.  Impressive!

I really like the new Russian Ry. grey and red scheme.  It's really impressive!

Then there are the Chinese Ry. U.S. built GE Diesel units that operate on the world's highest railway from Peking to Tibet.  WOW!  Please pass the oxygen mask!

I think the Russians loaded the cars by dipping them in oil.  I think that grey and red scheme looking a much better than the old green and blue. I like also our Fenniarail and Operail`s paint scheme´s
