great photo Lew !!   my favorite RR...  when growing up,  we used to take my

grandma down to the train station to catch a train to Baltimore, where my Dad, grandma

  and grandpa are from...

My Grandparents' house was beside the Pittsburgh-Buffalo line (previously BR&P) and I watched a lot of Covered Wagons there working the Southbound grade up from the Allegheny River. Most freights had a pair of F7 As pushing the crummy hard. I can still hear the bellow of those 567s in notch 8.

And I just noticed this on the Train Room wall:

So #241 was the lead unit Eastbound in the morning. Here we are in the afternoon Westbound down the the long grade towards Pittsburgh with #241 trailing. SOP for B&O excursions was an open gondola.

Now, tell me something, my fellow model train hobbyists, is that photo by our man BAR GP7 #63, a layout shot, or are we seeing thatview through the eye of a drone flying over a real-life scene (!!!!!!!!!!!) Eh? Huh? Huh? WOW!!!!

You are really good at very, very realistic modeling, sir!!!!!!!In fact, you are an inspiration.

Well, Johan, if you are going to suggest we are experiencing a mutual-admiration-society, then, I'm just going to have to co-operate and agree that it is nice we find something we like in each other's work. It's all great fun, both the crafting of layout scenes and receiving the approval. And I much enjoy seeing the work of so many other fellow modelers, too, through this forum and OGR magazine,

Add to that getting "Likes" from other fellow-posters on this forum, and the whole experience of posting and attending these pages continues to be a real pleasure.

Thank you, again, for your being so generous about my little scenes.

FrankM

P.S. And in the spirit of Front End Friday sharing, I wonder if this locomotiveIMG_0885 in this scene on my layout is a model of the one seen in the posting, just above, shown to us by STEAMER (?)

Great collection, Randy. Pennsy is one of my favorite roads, and I love their steamers... but there is something incredibly appealing about those box cabs. Thanks for sharing.

Wow... gotta ask, Bill - are all of those F’s powered??? Looks like an ABAB-something!!! And what were you pulling that required that much power???

Not all powered, the ABABA F units are from Lionel many years ago. 2 powered A's, 2 B's with sound, and 1 unpowered A.

Thanks Bill. That is a very impressive (and, I assume, noisy) “lash up”!!!

AGHRMATT, nice pictures, wow, neat layout, nice Diesels and beautiful steamers, Randy Harrison, I love the pictures you post, and just keep them coming. CBS072 I love the BNSF, nice pictures, Geysergazer, great Big Blow,

According to the wiki-thingy the UP turbines all made it over 1,000,000mi. At one point 10% of UP freight trains were being pulled by these monsters.

This is a great thread, so many great scenes....We couldn’t do this in the 1950’s..Happy Railroading

Sorry for the poor pic quality. I took it with a Kodak "1.0 megapixel" newfangled digital camera. To Dad's right is the foundation for the East end signal for Deal Tower/station. In the background left is the foundation for the West end signal at Deal. The station/tower was where that brush on the left is now. Deal was the actual summit. Savage Tunnel was uphill the whole way from East to West.

Happy F. E. F. !

A repeat but fleshed out a bit. This is The Park Special, #47-48 idling at Victor, Id, the end of the branch from Pocatello:

           IMG_3022

I thought to consult my 1962 UP timetable:

                     IMG_3168

The Park Special departed Pocatello at 12:55AM and arrived in Victor at 7:30AM. The train idled all day and departed Victor at 8:15PM arriving back in Pocatello at 2:05Am.

We took that ride Summer '61, '62, '63 and '64, IIRC Pullman each trip. Rental car was waiting in Victor and we drove over the pass into Jackson and thence to Grand Teton and Yellowstone NP. Those were the days my friend, we thought they'd never end.

Some initial wiring/running tests on my new addition:

DSCN4266

Below, on the Old Side; class yard "re-positioned" a bit (it's...flex-track!). The hole in the sky will get some treatment, one day, as well as a class yard ground cover re-do.

Loco is an early Wms scale FA-1, custom painted (by me) for GM&O; TAS TMCC - no cruise. Of course, WBB has since offered these already done in GM&O, and ERR Cruise Commander is now around. Gee, thanx a bunch - especially as this is only one-third of an ABA set, both A's powered.

DSCN4255

There will ultimately be a bayou in the pink foam under that Lionel lift bridge (beautiful piece, and works well), and blue backdrops all around.
