I brought a Lionel 2-6-6-4, N & W A Class out of storage , product number 6-28052. Lubed and started it up and all ran Ok. However the front top marker lights are out. I reset as per manual ( code 74) but cannot get lights to come on. This is an older TMCC model. Is there a code for the marker lights by chance before I open her up to check wiring? Front head light, rear light , cab light and tender cab light all work Ok.

Appreciate any advice. Al

Al It's an older Locomotive.I would open her up any way.Re do the smoke unit and lubricate maybe change traction tires You might find the problem Good luck Nick

I believe this loco came with an R2LC07 board which has the polarity for the classification lights backwards from later releases.

Was the R2LC in your loco ever replaced? If so, and the replacement is a C08 or later, this could explain your class lights not working.

The good news is that there's an easy fix -- simply flip the polarity of the class light harness and you should be good to go.

If the R2LC is a C07 and original to your loco, the above fix doesn't apply. Your best bet would be to replace the LED classification light harness.

I opened her up and rebuilt the smoke unit. As I discovered the motor on smoke unit was no longer functioning. The board is in fact R2LC07.So if I replace the board with C08 all I need to do is flip the polarity of the class light harness. Do I do this at the board or the plug . Al

If I may interject:

First, the "front top" lights are "classification" (or just "class") lights - used to show how the train was "classified"; the lights on the rear of the tender - or the rear of a caboose - are the "marker" lights. They are the "taillights" of a train.

Second, the class lights in the front were seldom on in the real world anyway; white (clear) meant the train was an extra; green meant that a second section of the same train was following; red was on only if the loco was running in reverse at the end of a train. Mostly these things were off. I actually will often unplug mine; your "failure" is a win for realism. (The tender markers were usually off, also, as the tender was not typically the "last car" in a train, unless it was a pusher.)

So - nothing to do. It's a win-win. Our locos too often look Xmas-tree-like.

Lubed, rebuilt smoke unit and put her back together. Reinstalled original C07 board. Everything except marker lights work EXCEPT smoke unit . Tested new  smoke motor I installed in smoke unit and no problem outside unit.  Cannot get smoke unit to work or motor to even work and yes smoke switch is on.Loco is set up at Steam/TMCC/RS which I think is correct. However when I push  - or + on the Legacy controller I get crew sounds. Strange.
