"HONGZ" stands for HO scale, N scale, G scale, and Z scale.

Post your non-O scale stuff here!

Hi all you G scale guys / girls.

I'm starting to build a small layout in my yard. It is all winging it. I started this past week and want to share with pictures what I have done so far. I have been preparing for this project for some time accumulating supplies to get a decent start.

I'm a ONE man builder. So it's going to be some what slow for a old guy lol!

Try not to laugh to much as this project progresses through the Spring , Summer and Lord willing I will have a respectable looking project by the end of Fall. I know without a doubt I'll screw something up.

But , that's the fun of it, right?

I'm just learning this G stuff and having fun fooling around with it.   I will be very basic to start with on this layout. Strictly analog and  have fun watching them run, that's all.

This project is in hope of  getting  out of the O gauge train room during the summer and enjoy smelling the flower's.

Larry

The first two pictures are what the yard looked like at the end of summer last year

Here is the start of trashing this week.

DSCN0073DSCN0076DSCN0078

Of course we had to find a cut off light pole I forgot about from years ago right where the pond is suppose to be.

DSCN0080

The Ha Ha start of a little pond with water fall. This is more of a caper that I thought.I have a LOT more respect already about these pond ideas.

These last  pictures show me trying to get a basic idea of a layout before planters and water accessories. I will be using LGB R-5 and I had to use some R-3 on the second Dog Bone inner circle. The pictures show no switches yet because I wasn't concerned with them yet. This is a preliminary wing it. hee

Hope you like the MASS confusion of the start. It's guaranteed to get funnier.

Larry,

Please tell Nancy that I am sooooo sorry for helping you down this G scale path!!!  This is unreal and will definitely be a show stopper like your O Scale layout already is.  Looking forward to seeing it in person on the way to and from York.  The LGB and USA trains will look awesome with that level of a run.

Hope that you kept the fountain etc for what it looked like before was great.

See ya soon.

Hi all, here is this end of the week story on  "Train in the Yard"

1st, I sure appreciate the support it really does create a lot of motivating adrenalin. Especially a one man construction  company.lol Thank you.

These stud muffins on u-tube showing how easy it is to put a liner pond in your back yard??? they need a ***  whooping!   Course it's my own stupid fault for thinking I could swing a pick and shovel as well as they could....NOT at 70.   I would have filled it in already , except upper management overruled.  ....

She had a shovel in her hand

Clem: no way is it gonna get bigger. lol

Greg:  I'll be putting is a dedicated circuit for the pond, led pond lights and the led landscaping lights. Also a separate circuit for the trains. That you see is abandon TV cable.

Dave: I'm so ready for your visit and our trip to York.

DSCN0102

Here is the 10 tons of crushed 1/2 rock delivered. Doesn't that look like wheelbarrow fun?

DSCN0104

Oh lets not forgot 45 bags of colored pond rock. You know they don't have the nerve to put how much one bag weighs. I'll tell you it's about 50 plus lbs

DSCN0115

Of course not only the light pole dug up in the pond but TV lines and now a old galvanized water line.

DSCN0125

This is where I stopped. I'm about half done and about half alive as well.

DSCN0120

And I can mess up any thing!!!!!

DSCN0108

And since this is a family site I won't show me sucking down several Coors light silver bullets.

Have a good weekend and Easter everyone.

Larry

Still having fun

Larry, you the MAN! I was just telling Cabinet Bob that I was outside shoveling dirt for the new train room addition and at my age I need a dam MACHINE that I can just put my Fat A** in and pull levers with a beer holder for the silver bullets! Then comes along Larry at 70 showing up a guy in his 50's! You sure know how to make a guy feel good!

Now to the good news, I think your doing a great Job and I sure am glad the boss said you have to keep going! Your going to like it better in the long run! Keep up the GREAT WORK!

Mike you funny,   and I do have a few machines but that darn pond has to be hand dug to complete.

Besides I take a lot of breaks.

Reminds me of a old Toby Keith song: I am  good once as I always was,  BUT,  not always good as I once was .

Something like that.lol

Larry

Yep, but those days are far and few between!

Guys/gals

Don't give up on me . No improvements since last week end when I took Easter off.

It has rained every single day since. Reminds me of a South East Asia monsoon season. I put a tarp in the hole last week and it has a unbelievable amount of water in it .

Have my plants, soil , rock and everything else for the pond to complete the mission except clear skies.

So , it's Sunday and  heck with it I'm packing for York .

Larry

PS I'll BE BACK

Hi All

Willie Gee powered shelves VERY NICE!

Mike 30 degrees not nice !

Joe, Always looking at your trains. And thanks for your continued help.

Glad to see Davy back at it. He is a hard act to follow  He's the real thing and I'm the homie store version.lol

Been a while. The rain is still really slowing me down. I am so far behind because of it.  But it makes the gardens grow here so my dry days will get here eventually.

Easter was great and my second trip to York was fantastic. Looking for G buildings I did good 11 new Pola models,  2 new Piko and a new Aristo water tower . All at a O gauge train show.

I swore no remote on this and after meeting those engineers at the MTH display I went to the DARK side.

He, over time convinced me WiFi  with my I pad was a piece of cake So I dragged home a  complete DCS set and the WiFi box. Good Grief!! And to beat all I ordered a G Veterans Dash 8 when I got home

The materials are 90% here to finish this "Train in the Yard" project if it ever stops raining

Here is a few things moving somewhat forward when I had a dry day and no mud.

5 5 2017 [2)

1st after the pond was dug a coat of play sand . Ran out of white and used yellow.

5 5 2017 [3)

Then the under lament and 45 mil liner on top of it.

5 5 2017 [4)

Then I just had to put some water in it and test the future water fall.

5 5 2017 [5)

It actually looks like it might work We will see

5 5 2017 [1)

A little bit of work on the 1st flower bed. Long way to go.

ORANGE a train, a train, a train, SOMEDAY! lol

5 5 2017 7

Here is a picture of some of the York goodies.

Well take care until next update.

Hi Larry, I think its looking great! Water is running, no leaks, flower bed in, heck your off and running! In now time you will be out there laying track with a silver bullet next to you! LOL

Hi all

Probably figured I been real lazy, NOT. It was more rain but I have a few picture that don't look like much but there is a lot of work hours.

Because the small pond took more room than planed I was able to bargain for a additional  100 plus square foot  land purchase. that's good. Having to move Big brick not so good

And a good note between you and me it's getting me real close to the   O gauge train room.

Be nice if I could just run that Big Boy G scale right into my train room. lol   work in progress! ,,,,,,,

, you know what I mean if ya been married over 45 years. hee

Any way here is a few photos to show the view off the porch I was wanting and the layout in progress.

Have a great Holiday weekend all.

Larry,

That is amazing work that you are doing there.  I bet Nancy is thrilled for you to learn of G scale!!!  LOL.

In all seriousness, you have come a long way since I was there for our York trip.  Glad you have sent the rains of Erwin our way for needed it.  Can't wait to see the first setup later this summer of your first run.

David

Hi all

The train Yard Project Goes On

Here is what was done this past week . Once again not impressive but lots of hidden hours.  At least for a old guy. ha

Plant's are done thank goodness. The boss is happy

Weed barrier all put down.

Then wire , wire and more wire to have all the electrical completed.

We are talking a inner (About 140' + sides24') and outer loop (105 + sides 24' ) with 6 isolated switch controlled sections, 8 remote  switches. Not counting auxiliary wire (100') placements extras for expansions . hee  she don't know about.

All to hopefully be very user friendly with MTH DCS WiFi One Gauge DC trains.

Yea I know boy I'm pushing my luck. lol But it's fun trying!

The permanent 20 amp  circuit  for the pond and it's accessories is completed.

The dedicated 20 amp circuit is almost done for the train consol. Just have to tie it into the mail panel .

You can see in the pictures where the circuitry will all meet . Tried to keep it all neat with pretty colors.LOL

Believe it or not the plan is for the major components to be portable and never involved in  weather.

You will see that later HOPEFULLY. lol

Still having Fun

Larry

PS    Next week 6 plus ton of small rock with  to spread with a WHEEL BARROW t.

SOOOOOO much fun to look forward to , right ? Perfect exercise .

It is really more organized that the looks.

In under the deck to the main control panel.

IMG_0424

Look at the pretty colors . hee

IMG_0430IMG_0435IMG_0438

Finished GFI outlet for the pond and it's accessories.

Tried to make it look neat.

Larry, its looking just wonderful! Just keep your old arms moving with the rake and shovel! O I almost forgot, it doesn't work for everyone, but I have had good luck with it. Once you start moving your rock with the wheel barrow, stop and take a drink of a nice cold one between loads. For some reason it makes things move so smooth! LOL
