I was given a gang car #50 in rough shape. It didn't run. I cleaned it up, oiled it, & put new springs & brushes. I get a hum & it movs a little with a push & a full 18 volts. What's my next step to try & get this running?

You might also check the contacts to make it go forward and reverse as well. Make sure those are clean and is making good contact as well.
Also check that the armature spins freely. The bearing plate could be worn and if there is any wobble in the armature it may be hitting the field coil laminations. IIRC the brush plate made of Bakelite material and the armature bearing is just a hole in the plate with no bushing. The fix is to enlarge the hole and press in a brass bushing but if it is tight lube it and leave it alone.
I'd also remove the armature and polish the commutator face, also make sure there isn't any contamination between the commutator segments.
And oil the lower motor bearing, not just the easy-to-reach one on top.
