This was supposed to be corrected in a previous release.  I suspect either it wasn't or it crept back in somewhere.  Usually just going in an re-entering can solve this issue.  I will ask JonZ and Rudy  if they have any thoughts.  I know when it was brought up previously they were having a hard time finding the cause but believe Mike Reagan at a LUG meeting told us they found the issue and it was corrected.

As far as the Cab2 shutting off, I have not seen that issue.

I've run both combos, base higher than the cab and cab higher than the base, it happens pretty regularly in a club setting with everyone bringing their remotes.  Usually there's no problem, though I'm sure some functions might work oddly or not at all.  Normal operation seems to work fine with a mismatch.  I think there was a major shift in the early versions that might have bigger issues with a mismatch of software, I'll leave that to someone else to test.

Well I have heard back and this is what was passed on and I'm paraphrasing...

Lionel has made improvements in the display corruption on the cab2, but sometimes the symptom still happens.  They recommend clearing the engine record and re-entering the info.

And Base and Cab2 software version...

The base and cab2 revisions do not need to match beyond the first decimal place. For example 1.60 and 1.61 on the cab2 can match a base version 1.60 with no negative results.  In many cases larger differences in revisions will work just fine as well.

So my 993 arrived with 1.6. My older 990 is still at 1.4.  After a short test, the 1.6 handheld seems to run trains fine with the 1.4 in the base.

What are the potential issues with the software differences?  Lack of access to specific Legacy  features supported by the 1.6 in the handheld?

I will most likely upgrade the base. I just always assumed that in order to function at all, the software had to be the same, not unlike the channel.
