Good Price on WS General Store

I have all three of the initial offerings, and am already lobbying Woodland Scenics for more. They are, in my opinion, the most nicely detailed built-up structures I have seen in O scale--definitely raising the bar a good bit.

I bought mine from MB Klein, and their price was nearly as good as that eBay auction. Shipping was also very prompt.

These buildings don't come with sidewalks. I ordered the OGR sidewalks and suggest others do as well to complete your scene.

I've just ordered some of these for the shop and can't wait to see them.

Glad to hear you have the inside track to lobbying WS for more of these O scale built-ups. If I had my wish, it would be for some 5-6 story urban, cast iron type buildings like the HO City Classics.

Well, I don't really have any special sort of inside track with the Woodland Scenics folks, but I do have a contact there who I deal with regularly regarding new product announcements. They are, at this point, "cautiously optimistic" about future offerings.

If you have a Menards near you they are selling all 3 buildings for 79.98 each. We just picked up the cobbler store. The base size of this store is 8 inch by 5 1/2 inches.

Lima, it's definitely O scale. I checked it with the Woodland Scenics website and it's the same item number.

I ordered all three and I agree with Allan.
These are great structures and, if you calculate the cost and time of adding details and aging, they are even better. And . . . I have not even gotten them yet.

I also recently ordered the new three Woodland Scenics structures. This type of "finished" product is a good $ deal for me and others whose age and health issues have reduced their motor skills below adequate assembly levels....and, forget kit-bashing....a two-handed phillips screw driver aim is quite an achievement these days.
Anyway, my wife asked me recently if there was anything I could use for Christmas aside from having my prescriptions refilled?[how do you spell comediene??]. After I admire them for awhile she can do her normal thing and wrap them for under the tree.

At the many train shows I've attended, I always stopped and admired the "HO" versions of these structures.

A lot of new train products pass through our office on a regular basis, but I must say those Woodland Scenics buildings are the first, in my 4+ years here, to have received universal "Wows" from staff and visitors alike--even some who have no involvement in the hobby.

George Seil saw the three I received and almost immediately ordered one for himself (actually a Christmas gift from his wife, I believe).

My Woodland Scenics "Built 'n Ready" General Store just arrived in the mail .

In my very best structure modeling mode of days long past I couldn't have come close from a kit to achieving the quality and appeal of this store building and its accessories. I paid $90 including S&H. The Hardware Store is on the way at a few $ less,the Cobbler will be $8 more.
My last boxcar purchase in 2010 was near $70. So, by comparison these buildings are a bargain for us unskilled builders. For those who are skilled kit builders it may seem extraordinarily high priced. But wait til the "Rusty Years" envelope you [about the third year of the so called "Golden Years] .

Our first batch came in Friday and left Saturday. They live up to the great reviews they are getting. Very nice!

As the hobby, O scale more than other scales, ages.....'Ready to plop down' stuff is going to be more and more popular. But building has been my main hobby weather plastic static models or trains....even if it was only a HO Athearn easy kit that I built,tuned and weathered. I know I'm wishing for things that will not happen....but I can dream any way....

I was in my LHS and walking down an aisle when these buildings jumped out and caught my attention. The detail on these things are unbelievable. I was really struck with the fantastic look.

These are a must have for me.

Why would they change scales? They've been out in HO for years.

For the same reason I jumped to O 20 years ago, the visual impact of the same item in O is magical / spellbinding.

I think that's probably right. My wife has always said that O scale/O gauge is so much more impressive than virtually anything we've seen in HO with the possible exception of George Sellios' layout, the Franklin & South Manchester which is just a feast for the modeler's eyes. But, even in that case, when I've scratch built some of George's buildings from pictures of his layout, the total impression just seems greater (though admittedly I can hardly get to the level of George's techniques as much as I try). We know that's really true with the trains themselves but I suspect it may be true of structures as well, particularly when they're well detailed.

Sorry, but I don't buy in to that "bigger is better" bunk.

I still wonder if there is something to it. Otherwise, based on lower cost, ability to get so much more in a space, open source electronics in which every manufacturers product works with all the others, amazing availability of any type of structure/accessory, etc. everyone would be in HO. But, for some reason, we're not.

Lots of reasons, but 2 that I can relate to:
Nostalgia...remembering the Lionel I got as a kid many years ago.
Bad experiance with a HO "starter set". My first Christmas layout, in 1983, used cheap HO engines and brass track. Everything was in the trash after 2 seasons.
"O" starter sets may not be "fancy", but they work.

Menards? Is that a hobby shop?

Menards is a home improvement store (a chain of stores) much like Lowe's and Home Depot, but with higher-quality product overall.

A lot of room for additional interior details/lights. I am attempting to blow out those outside dummy lamps and replace with waltyhers cornerstone HO wal lamps that work.

We don't have a Menards down here in Texas and they are not available online from them.

If you put in "woodland scenics general store O scale" on eBay you'll see a number of sellers there who have this item, including one for $79.95. Shipping isn't that cheap, but the seller has a lot of sales and high ratings.

luckly we are only about 25 miles from the menards store in st.joe,missouri.we did a little christmas shopping saturday and they had 8 of the ws buildings marked down to $69.95.

i picked up the tall building(hardware store i beleive.)as others have said it indeed is a very nice building.

hopefully in the future they'll come out with more building's.

I just bought the General Store at Menards for about $63 - sale price of 69.95 plus a store wide discount of 11% on everything in the store this week. They also had a Harry Potter set at 189.95 (subtract the 11% from that) and a Milwaukee 0-8-0 set at 219.95.

Eye surgery for me. And some loss of nerves. O scale screws and bolts are easier to hunt and catch than HO scale ones these days.

I hope that WS will keep up these buildings, I would think not too difficult to buy a town. Heh.
